10-team, 5x5 roto league. I'm currently in 1st place by a narrow margin.
Right now, I MIGHT be able to make up ground in the "Win" and "WHIP" categories. But i can easily lose points in "ERA" and "WHIP" if any of my pitchers have bad outings. K's are a non issue right now.
Should I pick up Max Scherzer for his start against the San Diego Padres on Friday?
Scherzer has been inconsistent this season, but his last 4 starts have been solid, and San Diego kinda stinks. I've already changed my mind on this 100 times, so your help is appreciated!
Thanks in advance, WHIR!!!

If your winning ERA right now then I wouldn't even chance it if you don't need Ks. I used Scherzer this year pretty much only if the situation called for it, or my ERA was already shot and I could use Ks. I just don't think you can chance it if your winning ERA by a slim margin even if the Pads are terrible offensively.

Great thanks to soto for the sweet sig!...

I wish I knew what kind of cushion you have in ERA. It wouldn't really do much help, considering you would also have to factor in the number of IP to be able to compare how much leeway you have in the category over the team behind you.
That said, I have faith in Max. I think he will come out and put together a solid performance to close out his '09 season.
If you have a player out for the season or an empty roster spot, I say go for it.

It might be a bit late for the help. But if you've already picked him up. I'd say go ahead and play him of course depending on your ERA lead. One bad outing really won't hurt you too bad in ERA, but again it depends on the margin.
