12 teams, Standard Yahoo 5x5 Roto, OBP instead of AVG
The only two players I'm FAIRLY certain I'm keeping are Miggy (for sure), and Felix (fairly positive). I could see making cases for the following other players on my team- Josh Hamilton, Nelson Cruz, Carlos Beltran
I'm not thrilled about the idea of holding on to pitching, and this is the first year I'm doing a keeper league, so I'm not really sure the trends, or how the other average fantasy minds work. Is a front end draft pick better than any of the three below?
Josh Hamilton still has 1st-2nd round upside in my opinion, but his frailty this season really has me worried moving forward, and if the years of drug abuse really have diminished his body's ability to recover, that may not be worth keeping in any risk/reward scenario.
Cruz is definitely someone to keep down the road, but he's been poor down the stretch, however, that could be largely due to the the fact he hasn't played a full major league season yet. I know I should be keeping players for their future production, and not based on past production. I just am honestly unsure.
Beltran has always produced until this year, but he's also getting up there in age. The Mets were so bad this year, and add in his injury problems as well, and maybe he's just not worth keeping?
Any input is greatly appreciated, and if you link your thread, I'll gladly offer help in response. Is a front-end draft pick better than either of those three? Thanks again, all.
I'd only keep Miggy. If you get front end draft picks instead, then consider where any of those guys you mention would go in the top 30 draft picks next year. I just don't see it. Even Felix, I don't see you drafting that early and none of the other guys come close I don't think.
+1, if you take the pick with the '3rd keeper slot' you looking dead in the eyes with a 3rd round pick correct? Look at the value and stats for your guys remaining and tell me if any of them could have been had in the 3rd round out of Beltran or even Phillips, Cruz and Ellsbury. I think it would be a stretch in a 12 teamer to say that any of those 3 guys in a redraft league would have been there in the 3rd round given their years this year. I would keep Beltran purely for his upside tho.
