16 of Halladay's 30 starts have been against the top 4 offenses in baseball (using OPS) compared to 5 out of 31 with Greinke. The difference between the quality of his opponents and everyone else's is just enormous.
So is the difference between Toronto's Gold Glove defense and Kansas City's Little League defense.
The problem with xFIP is that the only adjustment it makes is for HR/FB
Not true at all, it corrects for LOB%, HR/FB and BABIP.
tRA only corrects for LOB% and nothing else, tRA is just a better version of ERA. It describes what actually happened in a better way than ERA does, it doesn't really correct for luck all that much.
As for HR/FB being a skill, sure to some extent it can be. It is also dependent on the competition you face and the park you play in. Same can be said for BABIP and LOB% though which other stats are correcting for. There is no perfect stat so it is going to be subjective, I was just saying if you are going to try to find some magic number that tells the story I think xFIP is probably the best of them for now.

Ah, you're right because FIP is adjusted for that and xFIP adjusts the HR component of FIP... Duh.
But you'll also notice I didn't say tRA, I said tRA*.
I love how the AL Cy Young conversation is 155 replies long and counting, because it's basically entirely about Halladay, and therefore, mweir and his xFIP/tRA* camp. The NL Cy Young conversation is 16 replies and counting, and like half of them are related to Halladay.
Rocinante2: you know Rocinante2: its easy to dismiss the orioles as a bad team ofanrex: go on Rocinante2: i'm done Rocinante2: lmao

Yo Neato, I'm really happy for you, and imma let you finish, but if you wind all post replies back to site average, the NL Cy Young debate is easily the largest on the site - because reply count is clearly luck based.

Meh, I didn't bring up Halladay in this one. But he probably deserves a mention in every thread because he's just that good.
