Help Pick 4 more keepers out of 8

Postby woodson_28 » Mon Sep 21, 2009 6:09 pm

10 team league. We keep 8 total players.

H2H, 7x7 w/ OPS, Hits, k/9 and QS as the extra categories.

We forfeit the pick for the round a player was selected. For example, if you keep a 1st round pick, you lose your first rd pick next year ... simple. If we keep a player that was a FA/WW pick up, we only have to forfeit a last round pick to keep the player (23rd pick). If we keep two players from the same round, we have to forfeit a pick for the round before. Example: If I keep 3 players that were FA/WW pick ups, I forfeit a 21st, 22nd and 23rd rd pick.

So, here are the guys I'm keeping, no questions about it:
A. Pujols - 1st rd pick
A. Rod - 5th rd pick
J. Upton - 16th rd pick
C. Kershaw - 17th rd pick

Now, here are all the players that I acquired off FA/WW that would only cost me a 23rd pick to keep:
A. Soriano
R. Doumit
H. Pence
N. Cruz
A. Hill
Wandy Rodriguez
T. Hanson
S. Kazmir
T. Lilly
G. Floyd

And here is the rest of my team:
P. Fielder (2nd)
B. Roberts (4th)
A. Ramirez (5th)
Liriano (7th)
Tulo (8th)
J. Bruce (9th)
AJ Burnett (10th)
Galladro (11th)
M. Scherzer (14th)

Right now I'm thinking: Fielder (2nd), Tulo (8th), Galladro (11th) and T. Hanson (23rd).

I'm also tempted by Soriano, Cruz, Hill and Wandy.

This locks up your IF and offense for next year. Hanson and Kershaw give you a great foundation for the middle of your rotation then you can concentrate on that ace in the 3rd and 4th. Prince won't be a 2nd round pick next year I don't think, and it sets your IF and UTIL, allowing you to concentrate on OF and SP with your remaining early draft picks.

This is silly. Take Soriano, Hanson, Cruz, and Hill without question. I wouldn't bother keeping any players on your original roster beyond your four "for sure" keepers at the cost of those forfeited rounds, just try and target them earlier in the draft. You get insane, early-round value on all four of those last round/FA picks. In fact, every person you can keep for a last round pick deserves keeper consideration, just these 4 have the best combination of upside/reliability. With Fielder, you get little to no value in the 2nd, Tulo will likely go 2-3 rounds earlier, so be aware of that, Roberts in the 4th sounds about right for his ADP, and I'd let Gallardo slide a bit. The amount of innings he has pitched this year compared to last is just stupefying.

Pujols - 1st round
Arod - 5th round
Upton - 16th round
Kershaw - 17th round
Soriano - 23rd round (silly)
Hanson - 22nd round (how could you not?)
Hill - 21st round (what, you lock up a top 2nd basemen in the 3rd to last round?)
Cruz - 20th round (he'll fly off the board a lot earlier than that in standard, non-keeper leagues).
