Let go of Alex Gordon or Chris B Young(or both) in a keeper?

Postby mrbo » Mon Sep 14, 2009 12:52 pm

I'm basically wondering if I should keep either Alex Gordon or Chris B Young, or let both of them go and replace them with 2 other people from my current roster. I'd probably be looking to keep Garrett Jones as my new keeper.

It's a deep 16 team keeper league with unusual keeper rules that use contract years. We must keeper 6 players, and assign those players 11 contract years.
Below are the players I kept from last year, and how many years they'll have remaining after this season ends.

Grady Sizemore- 2 years
Tim Lincecum- 1 year
David Ortiz- 1 year
Matt Kemp- 1 year
Chris B Young- 0 years
Alex Gordon- 0 years

So, I have to distribute 6 additional years to these players, also, I'm only allowed to assign contract years to ONE of the expired (0 years) players. So I could choose to keep either Chris B Young or Alex Gordon, or I could let both of them back into the draft pool for next year and keep someone else from my current roster.

Here is my current roster: (current keepers underlined, possible new keepers in bold)

Jorge Posada

David Ortiz
Gordon Beckham
Adam Kennedy
Matt Diaz
Matt Kemp
Ben Zobrist
Garrett Jones
Chris B Young
Alex Gordon
Grady SizemoreDL

Tim Lincecum
Rick Porcello
Max Scherzer
Homer Bailey
Pedro Martinez
CJ Wilson
Andrew Bailey
Mike MacDougal
Matt Thornton
Joel ZumayaDL

I was thinking to sub in Garrett Jones for either Alex Gordon or Chris Young. What do you guys think? Should I drop both and keep Garrett Jones and someone else? Thanks

Figgins and Grienke are better than both Gordon and Young and all of the players you have in BOLD.

I forgot to mention that I cannot keep Greinke or Figgins because of where they were drafted. Because I'm only letting 1 or 2 guys go, I can't keep a guy drafted from Tier A (Rounds 1-5) which includes Greinke, Mo, Peralta and Figgins.

If I would have set my contracts last year so that 3 keepers were expiring this year, I'd be able to keep 1 guy from that group. Sorry for the confusion.

I would stick with chris young, as for alex gordon its tough. He is still so young and has so so so much potential. I might actually keep scherzer in place of gordon. I also like Gordon Beckham. I would go with Chris Young for at least one more year. No garrett jones.

I would let both go and keep Gordon Beckham and Ben Zobrist. I gave some thoughts to Max Scherzer, but ultimately decided Beckham and Zobrist were better options. I love the versatility of Zobrist, and I love his lineup. I would ink Bekcham to the longer deal. Reading your post, I'm assuming you have 6 years to divide between those two players. If you can, I'd go 4 years of Beckham and 2 years of Zobrist. I might even consider 5 years of Beckham and 1 year of Zobrist. Ultimately I find it hard to believe Beckham won't end up at SS or 2B, and his value will take a big bump if that's the case. At 3B he's a little light on power, but his home ballpark is so small, I could see him drilling 20-25 HR's next year. His batting average should be over .300 I'd think given his solid contact rate. Overall I'd say a line of 80-20-90 .310 15 SB's isn't out of the question which at 2B or SS would be studly. Help with mine please?
