Most places have the Dodgers' rotation as Nomo, Perez, Weaver, Ishii, and Edwin Jackson. But if the Dodgers deal pitching to get power in their lineup, Alvarez is standing by, ready to go into the rotation.
Take it for what it's worth, but in the SportsWeekly Fantasy Guide that came out yesterday, they have Alvarez tied for 26th among NL pitchers, with a $14 value. They project 160 IP, 8 wins, a 3.23 ERA, and a 1.19 WHIP. That ERA is 7th in the NL among pitchers with more than 150 innings, and the WHIP is tied for 6th in the NL.
He pitched strong toward the end of 2003, so watch carefully the Dodgers' moves. There might be a real sleeper here.
Just a gut call, but I think he is in the rotation. Either a trade will occur or Edwin will continue to stink up the joint and start the year in the minors.
I just read an article (can't remember where) that said Jackson will start in the minors because his ERA this spring is over 10. That leaves the fifth spot between Alvarez and Lima, who have both been doing well this spring(Alvarez' ERA is under 2). Conventional wisdom says Alvarez gets it. I just picked him up off waivers in one of my leagues.

so much for my last round pick. wonder if i should dump him.
Don't drop him yet. You picked him so I'd wait it out and see how things play out. He struggled again yesterday but Jim Tracy was very complimentary about him today and gave no indication that he was going to send him down. It may still happen but if you drop him now you might regret it.
