Best VALUE for 2010

Postby Captain Furtah » Wed Sep 09, 2009 12:12 pm

Hi Guys,

I have one move left in a keeper league and I want to pick somebody up who has the best value for 2010 (I'm out of it this year). Here are the players in the FA pool...

B Lyon $1 - a steal if he closes, F Rod is a FA
J Garland $1 - I love all NL pitchers
Meche $1 - probably better than Garland, but in the AL
M Jacobs $1 - doesn't fit with my team, but $1 is $1...
JD Drew $2 - not on my radar earlier this year, now is def possibility
C Getz $2 - is he the starting 2B next year?
Polanco- $2 - borderline FA every year, but numbers always solid
Maybin $5 - I'm sick of him!
C Perez $5 - Again if he closes, could be good value
Slowey $6 - good ratios, will he bounce back?
K Suzuki $6 - maybe top 5-6 catcher, but still, not many worth $5+
B Posey $6 - would have to play most of year to earn this price
M Bumgardner- $6 again probably wont play enough
K Blanks $6 - a lot like B Butler IMO
B Wagner $6 - I'm sure he'll be a closer next year, but for how long
C Pena $16 - Someone just dropped him and he's not cheap, but still a good value right...

and if any of these guys gets a Sept call up, would you take them first?

Alvarez
Wallace
Heyward
all are $6 (like every other FA who wasn't drafted this year)

I will help you. Also, do you know of any sites that are projecting 2010 stats yet?

of the 3 call ups you mentioned I like Brett Wallace, but on the Free Agent list I like Cameron Maybin the best, followed by Kevin Slowey and the Carlos Pena.

I like Maybin for $5; he could be a real gem and a steal at that price. And I like Slowey at $6. He'll be back at 100% next year.

I should have posted this before, but the other outfielders I have (with their prices)

A Jones ($5)
Choo ($6)
Snider ($3)
McCutchen ($6)
Rasmus ($1)

We start LF, CF, RF, OF and a UTIL spot. I only plan to keep 4 OFers and Jones, Choo and McCutchen are locks. Would you take Maybin at $6 over Snider ($3) and Rasmus ($1)?

Thanks

Rasmus may be a good pick if STL fails to sign Holliday in the offseason, but Maybin is a possible 20/20 player

Ok, I've narrowed it down to Lyon, Posey, Slowey, Pena and Maybin (though I don't really need 4 CFers I could drade A Jones or McCutchen in the offseason). Any other input? thanks to all those who helped already.

I would go Posey. Molina's OLD, and his contract is up, so he may be either gone or a backup next year. People say Maybin has 20/20 potential, but he hasn't even looked like a 15/15 or even a 10/10 guy. So far, he's looked like a late-game defensive replacement.

I'd have a realllly hard time passing up heyward, but I would probably end up with Posey mostly because he plays catcher. Slowey would also be hard for me to pass up. If you could drop A Jones and pick up two guys instead then I would do that.

I doubt Heyward gets the call this year, though it MIGHT happen for the last week or 2. I still don't think I'd cut Adam Jones for him.
