Andrus vs. Rollins WHIR

Postby da bears » Tue Sep 08, 2009 8:14 pm

I have the option of grabbing Andrus off of waivers and having him as a late(21st-23rd round) keeper where he will stay at for as long as the league goes on or I can keep Rollins at what will be a 4th-5th round pick. Do you think I should make this move? We keep 7 and I am looking at keeping a SS and these seem to be my top two options right now, let me know what you think I may be really over thinking things here. Most likely am. Leave a link

AWell it depends on what your roster looks like and your other keepers (yes this does help in figuring out draft value as well), I like Rollins better, he is still the 2nd best SS, and he has better power numbers and slightly better steals

help with mine?

I would go Andrus. At a 21st-23rd pick, there's no risk. Rollins killed owners the entire first half of the season, and your 4th-5th round guy can't hit .200 for 3 months. Rollins has better power, but Andrus has youth. Still, it will take seeing your whole roster for a better look.

And I wouldn't say Rollins is definitely the #2 SS in baseball. We don't know where Reyes will be next year. Even then, Jeter and Scutaro have been fantastic this year, so they could supplant Rollins for that title.

Jeter is aging (mid 30's) which is dangerous for fanatsy owners, plus Scutzro will be 34 next season, and prior to this season was nothing more than a utility player, and think his .280 11/11 season is a fluke. and players like Troy Tulowitzki and Jason Bartlett should deserve more consideration than Jeter and Scutaro

If you don't have a penalty for keeping Andrus year-to-year, and he is perennially a 21st/22nd selection for you, that could end up looking brilliant in a couple years, and downright genius in four or five. On the other hand, the 4th-5th round is actually where I expect Rollins to slide to for next year, seeing as how he was hesitantly a late first-rounder/early second-rounder this year and failed those expectations for over half a season. I think I might go Andrus here and gamble on the upside rather than staying with a sinking ship.

It is pretty confusing given that we keep 7 and lose the round drafted in for the life of the league but here are my other potential keepers with the round they'd be kept in. Also if I keep two 1st round guys then I'd lose my 2nd rounder
C - Martin(4th), Soto(10th)
1st/Util - Cabrera(1st), Votto(8th), Morales(last)
2nd - Roberts(2nd)
SS - Rollins(1st) or Andrus(last)
3rd - D Wright(1st)
OF - Crawford(2nd), R Davis(last), McClouth(5th), Span(last)
SP - Richard(last), T Hunter(last), E Santana(8th), Garza(15th), S Baker(12th), M Bumgarner(last)
So yea very hitter heavy team with some decent late round fliers

IMO keeping Cabrera and Wright is worth losing your 2nd round pick, and in this case would keep Andrus over Rollins, I would also keep Span over Crawford, (slightly less steals and homers, but may develop more power), and Definately keep Morales
