Feliz or Zobrist - stud pitcher or stud infielder?

Postby RedSoxNation04 » Wed Sep 02, 2009 3:24 pm

In my 12 team keeper league, we keep players by brackets and can hold them for two years at their draft value. For my bracket that includes draft rounds 20-23 and free agents, I get one keeper. Currently, the choice rests with either Feliz or Zobrist. My other keepers appear to be Zimmerman (unless I talk myself into keeping Billingsley :-? ) from rounds 5-9, J. Upton from rounds 10-14 and Choo from rounds 15-19 (unless I decide to keep Garza :-o ). We play H2H and go 11x11 (R, 1B, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, BB, K, AVG, OPS/W, L, CG, SHO, SV, HLD, K, H, ERA, WHIP, K/BB).

My initial thought was to keep Zobrist as I think he's for real and will be the full-time rightfielder for the Rays next year. He walks a lot, gets a ton of extra base hits and has decent steals to go along with playing in one of the most talented line-ups in baseball. Feliz, on the other hand, is a stud. 26:1 K/BB ratio and he's been lights out since his call-up. The Rangers plan is, as far as I'm hearing, to move him to the starting rotation for 2010. Will he be as effective as a starter as he was as a reliever or are we looking at Joba Part II? I don't expect him to come out next year and maintain a 26:1 K/BB ratio, but how will his skills translate from the bullpen to the starting rotation and will he be a better value pick than Zobrist?

I'm leaning towards Zobrist right now, but am interested to hear any opinions.

I like Feliz and he's lightning in a bottle, but that's just what he is.

Zobrist is 2b/ss/of elgibile going into next year, take him and run.

I like your other keeper choices, Pitchers dime a dozen.

Ryan Zimmerman (easily)
Justin Upton (easily)

what are your keeper options for Choo's bracket?

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. Probably going with Zobrist here. Too worried that Felix will turn into David Price or Joba Chamberlain.

Outside of Choo, I can keep Garza in that bracket. I may still keep him at this point, just want to get a better handle on what other teams in my league are going to do.

Not a big Zobrist supporter, but I would keep him over Feliz.

When in doubt, go with the bat over the arm.....take Zobrist.

zobrist and it isnt even close. feliz might not even be starting next year. feliz is a great talent but look at what hughes and joba did in the bullpen and it simply didnt translate to their roles as starting pitchers early on. feliz is a massive gamble heading into next season while zobrist already appears to be the real deal right now.

Zobrits due to positon eligibility and his hitting, Feliz is a nice young prospect, but a handful of games as a reliever doesnt say much for his value next season, Chamberlain and Price looked great as relievers and looked over matched as starters

help with mine?

Thanks for the thoughts gents...Zobrist is looking more and more like he will be the keeper. Now, if he would only start contributing something during my playoff this week, I would be much happier... :-)
