Dropping Johan...

Postby kingofdanger » Tue Aug 25, 2009 11:28 am

I'm in a Yahoo Roto league where I've been dominating all season, but my lead is shrinking these days, mostly due to Santana/Haren/Hamels not performing well in the second half. With the news that Santana might be done for the season, is there any way I can get around his "No Drop" status? I already have Peavy stashed on my one DL spot, and I'd rather not keep Santana there if he won't be back this season.

Also, I'm on my way to exceeding max innings by quite a bit - is Hamels droppable?

My P:
J. Johnson
C. Zambrano
J. Santana
C. Hamels
D. Haren
C. Kershaw
J. Soria
B. Jenks
J. Valverde
H. Bell
J. Peavy (DL)

There is no way around the "cant drop" while it is in place. But when/if it is determined that Johan will miss all or most of the remainder of the season, Yahoo will remove the "can't drop" status. Unfortunately, I don't know that exact criteria Yahoo uses to make that determination....or what the timeframe is. But I do know that they do update the "can't drop" when appropriate. I would assume they will wait for something a bit more difinitive than we have right now, though. It does l

I wouldn't drop Hamels yet...though I might only start him for favorable matchups. I think you have too many guys that are slumping, injured or just coming off the DL to drop a guy with Hamel's track record. Of course, to true answer this question depends on just how far over on innings you are. If you are only on pace to be 50 or 60 innings over, only small changes are needed (i.e. keep all your guys and just play the matchup game ). However, if you are on pace to be 150 innings over....its time to start dropping players.

Help with mine?
