Johan Santana, SP NYM News: Johan Santana (elbow) has been pulled from his start Tuesday, the Mets announced Monday. He will see Dr. David Altchek, the Mets team doctor, due to discomfort in his left elbow. Nelson Figueroa will get the start Tuesday in his place.
Analysis: Unfortunately, there was no warning with this. Santana could be shut down for the season -- or allowed to make his start later in Fantasy Week 21 (Aug. 24-30). We don't know at this point. The Mets might play it conservative with their ace in their lost season.
Could explain why he was sub-par in the second half of the season.

my first thought is, oh great there goes my #1 pitcher.. but then i rechecked the stats and im thinking finally i have a reason to not start Santana. over the last while whenever Santana has been pitching because hes Johan Santana you cant NOT start him, so you start him and he hurts you. now if hes done for the season i can drop him and pick up another pitcher off waivers. im in a deep league and there are probually still pitchers out there who could give me more than Santana has been.. then the question is.. if Santana is done for the season, yahoo should make him droppable right?

Um, he's depressed because he's still in Toronto instead of Philly because his GM is greedy and stupid.
As for Johan, I'm glad I didn't trade Carp last week when I was looking to get a big bat, if it's as bad as it sounds the Mets would have to be idiots to pitch him again this year.
Mike Pelfrey, Santana's fellow starter, said, "I don't think anyone expects good news." And Jeff Francoeur said he anticipates Santana will require surgery after speaking with the pitcher in the clubhouse Monday.
Other players said Santana seems resigned to surgery.
At one point, Francoeur -- he, too, is injured now -- said Santana "can get it looked at now and be two months ahead by Spring Training," an indication of a possible need for surgery in the immediate future rather than after the season. Later he acknowledged his conversation with the pitcher and the likelihood of surgery.
EDIT: While typing this, ESPN First Take reports that sources inside the Mets' organization believe the injury will not require reconstructive surgery, probably just surgery to clean up the joint.
will he officially miss the rest of the season? and if so when will yahoo make him able to be dropped? by the sounds of it he wont be pitching again this season,. and i imagine since rosters expand in September he wont be placed on the DL.
