Who will be the better 2B in 2010

Postby Padres Fan » Fri Aug 21, 2009 10:49 am

I am in a 12 team ESPN auction draft league with 8 Keepers, I am looking for good 2B option next season, in this season's draft I grabbed Orlando Hudson for $2.

Currently I have 4 2B eligible players and want to know who would be the best keeper, I included their 2010 value ($260 draft cap)

Orlando Hudson $7 but will be 32 next season
Asdrubal Cabrera $5 has been hitting good with steals and can play SS
Delwyn Young $5 has the most power upside, is 27, has about equal time in the OF this season as well but plays for Pirates
Chris Coglan $5 like him alot this season but could possibly lose his eligubility since he has only 1 start at 2B

Coghlan is going to lose the eligibility for next year so you might as well write him off now...I probably Cabrera the best of the bunch right now

Thats who I was leaning with I guess, Delwyn Young could be redrafted very cheaply or be on waivers for the next season, due to the fact that he plays in Pittsburgh

i am pretty sure that he meant hudson is $7 but will be 32 YEARS OLD next season.

for what it's worth, 2B has become so deep this season (relatively speaking) that i see absolutely no reason to keep any of these guys in a standard 12 team league. I noticed in one of your other posts that your league allows 8 keepers. hell no would i want one of these guys as my keeper. high end 2Bs will be much cheaper next year b/c the position is actually deeper than 3B, scary as that sounds.

still, if you had to keep someone i would go with AssCab. i like coghlan a lot but he wont be elligible at 2B next year.

But with each team keeping 8 guys, how many "high end" 2Bs will be available in the draft? I agree these guys are all a wash and a weak one at that, but I'd be curious to know who would be available come draft day.

well here is a list of the 2B drafted and how much they went for.
(Damn I saw that a lucky guy got Mark reynolds for $1 at draft time lol)
Keepers are $5 more than their drafted value, i.e. Utley could be kept for 2010 at $45

Utley $40
Pedroia $28
Kinsler $29
Phillips $23
Alexei Ramirez $15
Jose Lopez $8
DeRosa $6
Uggla $10
Cano $9
Weeks $5
Hudson $2
Kendrick $9
Polanco $4
Stewart, Freddy Sanchez,Lowrie, Felipe Lopez,Hill, Ellis $1

Utley may be a push to keep as he was overpriced, and has Pujols and Han Ram, Johan and blew $43, $42, $46

I think Ramirez, Hill, Cano,Kendrick could all be kept, I like Cabrera alot he is only 24 has good speed but will probably never hit for power, but he will be SS eligible as well next season.

how about zobrist, brob, scutaro, izturis, kennedy, etc?

i suspect that so many teams will have at least one BS breakout 2B for like $5-$6 that most of the top tier 2B will be available come draft day. i can tell you righ now that from the list you showed i'm guessing utley, phillips, pedroia, uggla and alexei get thrown back. depending on how annoyed the kinsler owner is he might throw him back, too (although is think $34 is a good price).

again, if you just want to check off the box and know 2B is done, then keep asscab. however, i really would not worry about being able to find a quality 2B in the draft at a reasonable price.
