Speaking for myself, I think both EA and this girl are sympathetic victims. However, I'm cynical enough to think that both could be hiding something.

As for why threads turn to ridicule here, a lot of it is simple locker-room humor, some of it is just stupidity, some of it's because some people are just 'holes. Combine a certain amount of freedom with a certain amount of anonymity and you're bound to have people behaving churlishly sometimes. I see it every single day; it's human nature.

I fully realize this. I've been on this forum long enough, and have partaken in a lot of it. Again, I was just curious as to why some of those who are usually the ones to create the locker-room humor decided to be sympathetic in this given situation. Not criticizing the position one bit, just wondered.

I think part of it is because Andrews' media attention was caused by a perceived positive attribute (being attractive), while this girl's attention was caused by a negative attribute (looking masculine). People don't have as much symapthy for the victim who's getting the attention due to something others are envious of.

That's not to say it's fair to Andrews, but I think that's how it often ends up playing out.

Maybe if you'd be specific about whom you're talking about, and about what specifically you found confusing, you could have your question answered. We could sit here and guess or we could have a real conversation about it. Up to you.

If she turns out to be male, then I would still feel sorry for her. Her self esteem must have been nonexistent for her to do something so drastic in the first place. All around a sad situation no matter how you look at it.
