Thoughts on Jack White

Postby acsguitar » Tue Aug 18, 2009 11:41 am

So I saw "The Dead Weather" last night and I guess I'm just not getting it. I thought their NIN type Bass riffs were cool but the "Blues" songs were ratty and noisy and without skill.

Why do people think Jack White is this musical god? I never dug the white stripes at all. I guess Rolling Stone rated him as a #12 guitarist or something? He's awful. He sucks at guitar. SUCKS.

I don't think the music is terrible, some of it's pretty good. But considering the "Jack White" OMFG!!! reaction I guess I don't get it. Wikipedia and others are calling "the Dead weather" a "Supergroup." Not sure how a super group can consists of Jack White and 3 people I've never heard of 2 of which were in the Raconteurs.

Anyways just wondering other peoples thoughts. I thought they were pretty self indulgent and a bit boring. The sound stunk but it may have been the venue. I'd give them a C+ overall. But seriously jack White? meh

I'm not a huge White Stripes fan, I like some of their stuff though. #12 guitarist? No way, I wouldn't say he sucks, but he's nowhere near #12.

Personally i think he sucks. I mean he can play the guitar but he's a big noise machine. He played guitar on one song last night and it sounded like crap. He just tremolo picks and uses distortion to make it sound like something

Here's an example of his "amazing" guitar playing

Garbage. Not saying all his music is bad but I get annoyed with the "Jack white is a guitar god" BS I see on the interwebz

Dead Weather is only a supergroup because it fits the given definition.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_supergroup

Look at what else is considered a supergroup. There are a couple great groups (Cream, CSNY), but the most are forgettable at best.

i love the White Stripes...but i havent been able to make it through the Dead Weather yet...just havent really had time to give it a chance. Racounters i kind of "meh" for me

as far as his talent...i'm not really an expert to evaluate, but i really dig his sounds...i especially like DeStijl (best Stripes album ;-D )

Interesting

The category is not a rigidly defined and the term can be applied subjectively.

Good point. It just irked me. Anyways the show wasn't bad just odd and not as "wooooooooo" as many in the audience thought it was. I mean any time jack white did anything on his own (sign, drum, guitar) you'd think the crowd just had a mind blowing experience. Meh.

Good show not great show

As for sound I think Jack's SOUND is originalish. But talent wise no

I've always been real "meh" on the White Stripes. If they were on, I wouldn't change the channel, but I'm not driving around waiting for them to come on.

Just out of curiosity what do you drive around waiting to come on?

Peter Gabriel-era Genesis. To this day, I am still driving......and waiting.
