Deadline Deal -- Big Trade for the Playoffs (WHIR....)

Postby sigriffey » Sun Aug 16, 2009 1:39 am

This is a trade that will not have keeper implications, but it would be to help my team gain some health and momentum.

I give: Jeter, McLouth, Broxton
I get: Michael Young, Rios, Papelbon

Do I do this? I prefer Jeter to Young, but McLouth has hammy problems and Broxton has been shaky. The guy I am trading with is out of the race and only cares about securing Jeter as a keeper for SS it seems.

DO this or swap in Street for Broxton? He also has Franklin... and Quentin.

stat categories: R, 1B, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, BB, AVG -- IP, W, L, CG, ER, ERA, K, SV, WHIP

My keepers right now are: Pujols, Utley, A-Rod, Sizemore, Sabathia and Halladay

My Team:

C M.Wieters
1B A.Pujols
2B C.Utley
SS D.Jeter
3B A-Rod
OF J.Damon
OF G.Sizemore
OF N.McLouth
UT J.Werth
UT N.Morgan
UT B.Butler
B Griffey, K.Suzuki, Fowler

SP Sabathia, Halladay, Greinke, Wainwright, Billingsley, Oswalt, Blanton, Holland
RP Broxton, Street

It's a fair trade. Jeter is better than Young, but Rios and Papelbon are both an improvement over McLouth and Broxton.

And really, the only real advantage Jeter has over Young is that he steals mote bases. So if you can afford to part with Jeter's SB's, then I would say you should probably take the deal.

But if losing those steals might be a problem for you, I would say reject the deal. You would be parting the the best player in the deal...and you are helping the other guys keeper list.....and I would only recommend doing that if you are getting a clear advantage.

If I were you, I would actually try to get him to add another non-keeper level player to the deal that can help you down the stretch. Maybe he can throw in another closer or outfielder. Alternatively, maybe he can let you keep Broxton of McLouth. In other words, if he really wants you to give him a keeper for next season, make him overpay for it....since he is already out of the running, it doesn't really matter for him if the trade is balanced and fair for this season...as long as he gets his keeper, he wins.

Help with mine?
