Just received a very intersting trade offer....WHIR

It's a 10-team, 5x5 roto keeper league. 6 Keepers per season.
I am currently in 3rd place, but in a 3-way dog fight for 1st place.

The trade offer is from the guy in 4th place. He is 8.5pts behind me, and 15.5pts out of 1st. So he has a legit chance at making it into the top 3, but winning it all is a long shot.

Here's my team:

c: R. Doumit
1b: M. Teixeira
2b: I. Kinsler
3b: P.Sandoval (also c)
ss: M. Young (also 3b)
of: N. Markakis
of: N. McLouth
of: J. Kubel
ut: Derrek Lee (1b)

dl: Justin Upton (of)
dl: J. Bruce (of)

bench: Alexei Ramirez (2b, ss, of)
bench: J. Willingham (of)
bench: G. Beckham (ss, 3b)
bench: Alcides Escobar (ss)

sp: R. Halladay
sp: A. Wainwright
sp: C. Billingsly
sp: R. Nolasco
sp: J. Danks
dl: J. Peavy

rp: M. Rivera
rp: F. Cordero
rp: F. Rodney
rp: M. Gonzalez

Now for the trade offer:

I give: Mark Teixeira

I get: Manny Ramirez.....Shin-Soo Choo....Jonathan Broxtan.....AND....Heath Bell

I would drop: M. Gonzalez....A. Escobar.....J. Willingham

Also, the waiver wire is rather thin on talent, so the guys he will get to add wont be studs by any strech

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one. But I am definitely baffled. I know I'm giving up the best player in the deal, and Manny hasn't been his old self since the suspension. But that is a lot I'd be getting in return. And I'm really not sure what the guy in 3rd place is thinking. Is he giving up and just trying to get Teixeira as a keeper? Does he think this trade actually helps his team's chances of catching me and getting into the top-3? Is he just trying to help me win?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Trying to wrap my head around it too. I have one question though, Who takes over 1b for you after tex leaves. You didn't pick up a 1b in the deal and if the wwire is short, whats the plan?

Derrek Lee goes to 1st

(sorry, originally had written "Cliff" instead of "Derrek"......I corrected that mistake)

Yea I guess he is giving up this season in order to get Tex as a keeper. That is the only way this trade makes sense for him. I wouldn't be surprised if the trade gets vetoed by the 1st and 2nd place teams.

i agree with the above post, the other person is giving up a ton for a very solid keeper in Texeira. If it'll put you over the top, which it appears it will, I'd go for it. The only problem is I don't see Derek Lee as a good keeper, so unless you're planning on going into next year with a 2nd tier 1st baseman, you might have to make 1st base a priority next year in the redraft
