I believe I am in a similar position. I have the number one waiver in my 12 team 5x5 keeper and while I would like to use it on the best possible prospect, I do not want to let it go to waste by waiting too long. Most of the year I had my heart set on Strasburg but it appears to be nearly impossible that he will get the call. Next you have to look at players such as Bumgarner, Heyward, and Alvarez. With the Giant's addition of Penny it seems more and more unlikely that Bumgarner will be added to the roster. Looking at recent articles out of Atlanta and Pittsburgh it looks as though there is little chance that Heyward and Alvarez will be called up either.

I'm using my waiver on Buster Posey. Combining the variables of overall talent and probability of being added to the game, I believe that Posey gives me the best return on my number one waiver request. Of course, Stephen Strasburg could be added tomorrow in which case I don't know anything.

I am also in a similar situation. I have the #1 waiver priority, except I retain the option to carry it over to next year. So I believe I am going to hold onto it (since there is a slight chance Heyward or Smoak still get the call, and if not I'll get first crack at top prospects next season). However, if i was going to lose the #1 waiver priority after the season anyway, I would definitely burn it on Posey. Even if you don't want him or need him, you could just unload him for some other talent considering he is hyped as a top-8 catcher or better for years to come. I know its a tough decision to make, but holding out for Heyward or other better prospects this season is foolish.
