Tulo Trade (WHIR)

Postby Roger LaFrancois » Sat Aug 15, 2009 4:50 pm

I was countered the following trade in response to an initial trade of
Mark Buehrle and Johnny Damon for Troy Tulowitzki

One of the drivers for my trade offer is a roster crunch when Justin Upton comes
off.

Anyway, the counter trade was Aaron Hill and Kevin Gregg for Troy Tulowitzki.

I am in a standard 5*5 Yahoo Roto league.

My initial reaction was to reject this trade outright, but when I started looking
at the stats it jumped out at me is now .085 ahead of Aaron Hill's and Troy is
trending up (over 1.00 ops since June 1) while Hill is trending down (about .760
-.770 ops since June 1).

Anyway, I started looking at the impact of losing Gregg on saves. I am now in
2nd place 8 saves in front of third but 1 save behind first. I figure this trade
kills my shot of gaining first place, but I likely can still retain second, unless one
of my closers loses his spot, which if you look at my roster is possible.

So my questions here would be:
(1) Accept, Reject, or Counter
(2) If reject, how would you handle the upcoming roster crunch

My Team
C: Suzuki
1B: Votto
2B: Hill
SS: Asdrubal Cabrera (would slide him 2 second if trade is made)
3B: Miggy Cabrera
OF: Holliday, Manny, Bourne,
Util: Damon
Bn: Hawpe (is slumping)
DL: Justin Upton
SP: Beckett, Lee, Ubaldo Jiminez, Nolasco, Lowe, Buehrle
RP: Fuentes, Gregg, Francisco, Nunez, Johnson (Baltimore..picked up at trade deadline
with Francisco on the DL and the cause of my roster crunch).

For the record I have decided to reject this trade. Even though I consider Tulo to be an modest upgrade over Hill, in the end this trade put my saves at an unacceptible risk level.

Worst case, when Upton is activated is that I drop my 5th reliever whoever that might be. Alternatively I could drop my sixth starter.

reject this trade. you have a solid SS in cabrera, and hill hits for power. as for the roster problem, i'd drop nunez b/c lindstrom will get the closer job back.
