Morneau Trade - Play for the Present or the Future?

Postby jmcampbe11 » Thu Aug 13, 2009 7:25 pm

10 team roto league with 3 keepers. This trade is on the table and very tempting, because I'd be able to upgrade my 3rd keeper (from Greinke) to Morneau. The question is, how will effect my chances to win now? I'm still "technically' in contention, but fading. Thoughts?

GIVE - Broxton and Street

GET - Morneau and B.Norris

STANDINGS
My team is "Open Team." Currently 11 points behind the first place team. I'd be trading with the team in third place.

honestly i feel like you can easily make up some points in the saves category. Your doing solid with HR and RBI which is morneau's strength. The guy your trading to will be able to use the few weeks left to catch up to the team in first. i think your helping the other team more than you are helping yourself.

I think, at most the the guy I'm trading with will move up 1 or 2 points in saves...but he's probably goin to drop in the offensive stats without Morneau in his lineup, so it could be a wash.

Again, the real appeal is landing Morneau as a keeper. Yes, I'm doing well in the offensive stats (excepts for runs), but there's still room for improvement. I'd still have Qualls, Lidge, J.Johnson and Nunez as my closers so I should still be able to at least stay where I am in saves or maybe even move up a point or two.

well if you arent concerned about him going up in points, then i would easily make that trade. morneau is a top player and will be great in the future

One more thing. I also just offered Sandoval/J.Rivera for Victorino/R.Soriano. If that gets accepted then I will be replacing one of the closers I'm trading in the other deal. Plus, Victorino would give me a needed boost in runs and stolen bases.
