I am a bigger fan of Jimi but I want a Les Paul super bad!
Jimi mostly played Fender Strats but he did own and play a black Les Paul, as well as other guitar models. He is most identified with the Stratocasters though since that's what he played a majority of the time.
So if you wanna play the guitar Jimmy played, it's a Les Paul.
If you wanna play the guitar jimi played, it's a Stratocaster.

A true pioneer, sad to see him go. I saw the documentary "Chasing Sound" a while back and have been a huge fan ever since. I have a Les Paul and they are fantastic guitars.
