Big trade

Postby MassYankee » Wed Aug 12, 2009 6:30 pm

Trying to work another big deal to up my keeper level for next year. Offer is this - I give Soto, Cano, Jenks, Halladay. I would get Mauer, Haren.

Then my potential keeper list, of which I can keep 5, would be:

Mauer
Berkman
Reyes
Hamilton
Beltran
Haren

Almost a decision as to whether I would rather have Halladay or Haren as my pitching keeper.

Note: If I don't make the trade, then my keeper list is Berkman*, Reyes, Hamilton*, Beltran*, Halladay*, Cano, Soto, Josh Johnson, Tom Hanson, of which I can only keep three of those noted with a * - barring any offseason trades.

Thoughts?

halladay over haren for days, haren's track record shows him dropping off in the second half what over the last 3 years? roy is an ace ten times over, and then think what will happen if he goes to a contender next year, a team that can score him a few runs when he lets in what? 4 or 5 and thats much for him... keep halladay...
I guess there was no curse... Boston just sucked for 86 years...

im not a big fan of Haren, but hes a great arm... i would say something like this...

take a couple shots at getting Lincecum using Halladay+ and if you can't then come back to this deal, it favors you simply because you get a great upgrade and keeper in Mauer along with Haren's potent value, but i think Halladay can nab you a tad bit better pitcher/2nd keeper option then Haren... again tho if Lincy is out of the question then yes i would go with this deal as Haren isn't AS much of a drop off in my eyes and Mauer is a huge upgrade for your keepers, but test the water first...

Great thanks to soto for the sweet sig!...

ya I would not do the above trade - I like Halladay over Haren and upgrading to Mauer is nice, but the guy still seems to be injured quite a bit and you still have the likes of Reyes, Hamilton, Beltran and Berkman as injury risks - given that situation almost all your keepers are injuries waiting to happen

Is it a round based keeper? If so Cano is turning in a ridiculous baseball player and this year was huge in his maturation process. He currently has a 987 OPS clip for the second half.

Cano has been great this year and I don't see signs of him slowing only getting better. That coupled with giving up Halladay I think it's a a bad deal.

Soto seems to be improving as well. Not worth it to me.
