I think I have a good chance at the Fantasy Championship this year, but I think I need a closer. Does not look like Beltran will be back. Should I trade him to a last place fantasy team in my keeper league looking towards next year for a top tier closer now? The three last place teams in my league have guys like Nathan, Riviera, Papelbon, Fuentes, and Hoffman. Or maybe you see other weaknesses that an injured Beltran may be able to be traded for?
12 team Yahoo H2H league. Scoring cats are R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, and OBP. Pitching cats are W, CG, S, K, ERA and WHIP.
C - V. Martinez 1B - B. Butler 2B - B. Phillips SS - H. Ramirez 3B - K. Youkilis OF - A. Lind OF - S. Choo OF - J. Werth UTIL - A. Huff BN - G. Jones DL - C. Beltran
SP - J. Santana SP - C. Billingsley SP - U. Jiminez SP - C. Kershaw SP - J. Sanchez RP - K. Wood RP - H. Bell BN - R. Dempster BN - E. Santana BN - M. Capps BN - M. Parra DL - E. Volquez
Is this a keeper league? If so, I have to think about it. If he requires microfracture surgery, his speed may never bee the same. But if its a redraft, I'd trade him for a piece of cheese right now. If you can get a top flight closer I think you are golden.
Yes, I neglected to mention but this is a keeper league. However, we will probably be protecting only 2 players next year, so my keepers would likely be Hanley and Johan. Thanks for pointing that out.
Agreed, if you're not gonna keep him anyways and you need to fill a gap at closer then that makes sense to do. Nathan or Rivera would be a great add if the other team is willing to do it.
agreed a powerful closer like Nathan would be sweet to get for Beltran as he won't be kept over HanRam or Johan for sure or Phillips or Billingsley for that matter... and would be nice to combo with Bell rather then Wood or Capps, if you do this deal i would also look to combo lets say Kershaw with Wood and/or Capps for an SP upgrade (aim for a team just inside the playoff picture or JUST on the outside looking to bridge that gap)... hope it helps!
I now have a deal pending for Nathan where I would give up Beltran / Wood. I am leaning towards accepting but, am now reading some encouraging news about Beltran on Yahoo. Should I still do it?
Beltran (knee) shagged fly balls Friday and is expected to so again on Saturday, the Associated Press reports. Recommendation: Manager Jerry Manuel said Friday that he was encouraged by Beltran's progress. If he's able to shag balls again Saturday without problems, he could begin running the bases. If running produces no additional problems, the Mets are looking to get Beltran on a minor league rehab assignment soon. (Rotowire.com)

I see a lot of ifs in there and thats a big key. Even if he comes back I doubt the Mets are going to have him go all out with the season pretty much lost already. Throw in the fact that you are not going to keep him makes me lean towards taking Nathan. Thanks for the help on mine.
I've kept Beltran for the past 3 years and am finally giving up on him. I think he is washing in the form of someone like Jernmaine Dye for instance. I'm probably going to keep, maybe, Votto in place of him so in my opinion... YES do the trade if it will help you this year and i'm sure you have someone in mind to take his spot for next year already.
