Hes one of the Rockies top pitching prospects. Is he worth keeping in a keeper league. Was tonight just a minor hiccup or does he really have control issues? Where would he fall in the rotation once he becomes established if he remains a starter? is he a number one start or back of the rotation?

Something I wrote when he was called up...

Minor league career 373ip
7.6(H/9) 0.5(HR/9) 2.5(BB/9) 7.8(K/9)

What is most impressive about his numbers is his 61.2% GB% which is outstanding. He throws a low 90s sinker and a plus change to induce loads of GB. He also throws a curve, but it still needs to be refined. He doesn't have the huge K #'s like other elite pitching prospects, but I think his GB tendencies will help balance that out.

Brandon Webb
Minor league career 357ip
8.8(H/9) 0.3(HR/9) 3.2(BB/9) 8.1(K/9)

I think Webb is an interesting comparison, as they had similar numbers in the minors, and they both throw a very good sinker. I am not saying Chacin will develop into Webb, I think we can agree that is a best case scenario, but he does have that kind of upside. I would expect something between DLowe and Webb, which is not too bad, and definitely fantasy worthy. Being so young (21), Chacin still has some time to refine his secondary stuff, so who knows what the future has in store. Thoughts?

Do you like Chacin better than Trevor Cahill's upside? or would you say they are equal?

I never really liked Cahill to be honest, but I think most would agree that his ceiling exceeds Chacin's.

Cahill Minor career 238ip - 6.2(H/9) 0.3(HR/9) 3.7(BB/9) 10.0(K/9)

He obviously hasn't had that kinda success in the majors, but I would expect his numbers to catch up with his skills in the near future. His GB% is also terrific with a percentage in the low 60s throughout his minor career. In the majors thus far its been 49%, which is good, but not great.

As for your question, I would take Cahill over Chacin.

Yeah, he's going back to starting. No idea really why they brought him up to be in the pen (where he was awesome), then give him 1 start and dump him back to the minors. Ah well, he'll be awesome next year.
