Halladay for BJ Upton - 12 team keeper - WHIR

Postby dooz » Tue Aug 11, 2009 5:18 pm

Its been a while since I've posted on the boards. I have a juicy offer on the table and I figured this is a perfect opportunity to get back in the mix.

I was offered Halladay for Upton by a team that is not going to make the playoffs. I am in first place (no surprise with my team. so glad i kept hanley over furcal in 07).

I have to make this deal, don't I? Don't be fooled by the strength of my team, this is a very active/competitive league and there is almost nothing on the FA list that would be better than what I already have. Morales would slide into the last OF slot and the UTL slot would have to be filled in-house.

I'm in a 12 team, 6 player keeper league. Its 8x8 H2H (R,HR,RBI,SB,BB,K,TB,AVG/W,L,ER,SV,K,BB,ERA,WHIP)

my team:

C - Victor Martinez
1B - Prince Fielder
2B - Mark DeRosa/Maicer Izturis
3B - Alex Rodriguez
SS - Hanley Ramirez
OF - Matt Holliday
OF - Bobby Abreu
OF - BJ Upton
UTL - Kendry Morales
BN - Hank Blalock
BN - Felipe Lopez
BN - James Loney
BN - Mike Lowell

SP - CC Sabathia
SP - Zack Greinke
SP - Wandy Rodriguez
SP - John Danks
SP - Max Scherzer
SP - Hiroki Kuroda
SP - Scott Richmond
RP - Mariano Rivera
RP - CJ Wilson
RP - Carlos Marmol

Yes.

I wouldnt be excited about keeping BJ Upton at all and you can easily weather his loss (his absence might be a blessing). You'll have the option to keep perhaps the best pitcher in the game or six of your other worthy options. This deal will no doubt help you hold onto first this year and might not hurt you long term.

I don't think you need pitching looks like you need OF help.

With 12 teams you should be able to get another deal. But that is a dumb trade offer on his part, he must be real desperate, BJ is horrible right now. Dropped to 9th in the lineup, so I guess it can't hurt.

Maybe you can trade other pitching for a quality outfielder if this goes through.

Might this get vetoed??

I would definitely do the deal.

Halladay's too valuable to pass up for Upton.

Agreed 100%. I like Upton, but Halladay ensures your first place finish this year.

It's a keeper league. That's why the other manager made the offer. the other manager doesn't have a chance at the playoffs and he's betting that upton figures it out long-term and that halladay has seen his best days.

it won't get vetoed.

And to the guy who said I need OF help, that may be true. Im not sure though. Holliday is red hot. Abreu isn't hitting HR but his R/RBI/TB/SB/BB production is good. Morales has been a pleasant surprise this season and shows no sign of slowing (he is 2nd on my team in HR and thats in less than 400 ABs)

thanks for helping with mine

I agree, you have to do this. Halladay makes your team this year great. While I agree Upton will turn it around, who knows when. Halladay is great now and should be great for years to come as well.

thanks for helping with mine

I'll take halladay as well. He's a proven top 25 player while you are hoping upton can ever get there.

I've never been big on BJ Upton. I'd take Halladay.
