NO chance. Liriano is still young enough to rebound and be a very good pitcher in that deep a league. Vlad is really pretty much done. This owner is trying to rob you.
Yes Liriano is a good young pitcher who may rebound next year, but Vladdy has been on a tear since coming back from the DL. He has been hitting for power. If he can put you in a slot to make the playoffs this season, I would take it. Vladdy should help you more this season, so long as he can stay on the field. But its not like Liriano has a clean bill of health with all his injury concerns.
And then there is always this...
According to Joe Christensen of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Francisco Liriano is in danger of losing his spot in the starting rotation. The Twins don't have a whole lot of options, but Liriano has been shaky in recent weeks and is 4-11 with a 5.63 ERA on the year. "We’re talking about a lot of different things," said manager Ron Gardenhire. "The one thing we don’t want to see is him get too far in the dumps. This guy’s got a high ceiling; he’s got great pitches. Right now, he’s pretty frustrated, and we’ll talk about that."
From Aug 6, so I doubt it happens this week, but they are considering making the move, which would certainly hurt his value for the rest of the season.
If you think that by doing this trade you have a shot at a title then I would go for it but if not then I would stick with Liriano. I would rather have the young SP than the old OF in a dynasty league.
"In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move."- Douglas Adams
Id do the deal... i know Liriano is a good young arm, but he hasn't been the same since the injury and i also heard about the potential of him losing his spot in the rotation... and IMO Vlad would be a much better RF option then JD Drew and a much better Keeper if you had to choose between them. plus add ontop of that that your starting rotation is still very strong and still very young i think you almost have to do this deal because if Liriano loses his rotation spot his value plummets even further then it is now..
Thanks a bunch for the replies. I really appreciate them. I have been bouncing between everything you guys have said. My initial reaction is the first post; no way, Liriano is a good young arm that can still rebound in the coming years. I want to think that his value can go no lower... but it certainly could. A once-feared slugger is on the table, and his hot bat could certainly help my cause for a championship this season.
Here's some more information if anyone else has an opinion they could share: - I'm currently 4th (was beaten 10-2 in a close match last week by the 1st place team) - I'm 10 games behind 1st, 4 games ahead of 7th (6 teams make the playoffs)
