LFer for a decent catcher

Postby quitesanemax » Sun Aug 09, 2009 10:52 am

I think one of my weaknesses is at catcher. Molina is okay for average, so I could live with him the rest of the year, but with so many great OFers, I think I can afford to trade one of them. I have 3 LFers, and was thinking either Quentin or Holliday could be on the trade block.

I was thinking of going after Mauer... but the way I see it, I'm going to have to pay a high price for that... maybe Holliday while his value is real high. What do people think? Is there any specific catchers you'd go after that have a reputation of doing well down the stretch?

Thanks!

Here is our league format:
H2H 12 team nonkeeper - 26 player roster w/ 2 DL.
Pitching: W,L,SV,K,Hld,ERA,WHIP
Batting: R,HR,RBI,SB,FPCT,AVG,OBP
Pitchers used: SP,SP,RP,RP,P,P,P,P

Here is what my team looks like presently:

there is no outfielder in baseball worth losing mauer for in my opinion. You are likely going to have to pay a much higher price because of how few catchers can produce in fantasy.

You may want to look at Miguel Montero though as a WW option if he is still available
C-McCann
1B- P.Fielder
2B-Cano
3B-Longoria
SS-Hanley
OF-Crawford - Kemp - Upton
U- C. Beltran(OF)
SP-Kershaw, Halladay, Lester, T.Hunter, Liriano
RP-Papelbon - Rivera
Bench-Webb, Carmona, Vargas, L.Scott, Andrus

If you want to go after a catcher for down the stretch, I would go for catcehers that don't catch. They are less likely to wear down. Some names that MAY qualify:

Victor Martinez
Pablo Snadoval
Brandon Inge

There may be others; pay what they are worth based on their numbers, but know that they are more likely to outperform other catcehrs down the stretch.
