Team A David Wright and Zack Grienke Team B Evan Langoria and Mark Buhrle
Team B 8 games out of first, team A 52 games out. Its a keeper league no prisoners. 5 keepers per year. Team B kept Longoria last year therefore he has to trade him before the 14th or lose him outright for next year. Team A can keep both Wright and Grienke next season. (just facts to keep in mind)
Looks to me as Team A is giving up avg, steals and K's for power and rbis as far as the two hitters pretty much a even swap. But I do not see the benefit of the pitching swap as Grienke is a possible keeper for next year (for team A)and Buehrle would never be kept. Is this a case of last place helping his friend or am I seeing something wrong. Thanks in advance for your input.

Becasue it is a keeper, I think it may be veto-able. The 3B are a wash (more-or-less) so Buehrle for Grienke is not terribly close to equal. Although, Grienke has been human over the last 6-8 weeks...close call. If you know the guys in your league, Id let it go, but if not, veto!
IF the new owner can keep Longoria, then I disagree, I have Longoria ranked higher than Wright next year and beyond. Beurhle is not as good as Grienke, but he is no slouch either.
New owner would be able to keep Longoria. Buehrle is not a slouch. Maybe rosters would help

I guess the way I am looking at it is that Team A who is out of it and is giving up the best two players in this deal. Team B could have givin up Billingsly , Joba, Cain, or Scherzer and that package would make a lot more sense for team A. Team A should be building for next year 5 keepers allowed, Buehrle makes sense if hes 10 games out, not 52. After this trade he has Soriano and Longoria as his 2 keepers. Pedroia has to be moved this week as well or lost due to being kept last year. A Gonzalez is a borderline keeper at best.
League is in its third season. 10 teams all active owners. I have never met either of these guys but I know they work together. I just hate to think of one owner acting as a farm system for another at this point of the year. LONGORIA has to be traded or lost. If this trade was flip flopped I think it would make much more sense.
no veto - it is not your duty to decide what is a smart deal and what is not - Buerhle just threw a perfect game so maybe the guy sold a little high - it's not too bad of a deal really though, although I would take the Wright/Greinke side
I guess thats my problem with it. This is a tuff one and I am the league manager. They are friends. If A was still in the race I would let it go through. Being Buehrle and Grienke are a wash for the rest of this season( Grienke K's and Buehrle wins IMO But Buehle is in no way a keeper in our league). But being he is out of it and should be building for next year I feel he is giving up a ton for Longoria. In my eyes hes better off going into next year with Wright and Grienke . He should be getting better than Buehrle in that package. Longoria is better than Wright but does that mean he has to throw in Grienke to get the deal done? Wouldnt Haren and Wright for Buhrle and Longoria make more sense on his side? The other part is he has made a bunch of lopsided trades with his two friends in the league that always get vetoed (by league vote, not league manager). He has a history. Longoria is the only player in this deal that HAS to be traded in our league. And actually Team B can choose to keep him if he thinks his team is better off for the rest of the year he loses him in the off season. I will stay out of the vote this time and let the league decide.
that is the problem right there - YOU are not the manager of his team and YOU think he should be getting more- he wants Longoria and is willing to overpay a little apprently - no veto, let him run his team - this trade does not swing the balance of power in the league IMO
