HELP -- 2 Blockbusters: A or B? (WHIR)

Postby sigriffey » Sat Aug 08, 2009 12:09 am

Which do I do?

Deal A: I give up Evan Longoria and Joe Blanton -- I get Johan Santana and Chipper Jones

or

Deal B: I give up Evan Longoria and Clayton Kershaw -- I get Jason Bay and Josh Beckett

12 Team H2H league, with 6 Keepers -- (SO I have to choose 6 to keep for next year. All player are keeper eligible, but those with a "K" are under contract and go back into the draft after 2010, the others after 2011).

stat categories: R, 1B, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, BB, AVG -- IP, W, L, CG, ER, ERA, K, SV, WHIP

My Team:

C Wieters
1B Pujols (K)
2B Pedroia (K)
SS Jeter (K)
3B A-Rod (K)
OF Damon (K)
OF McLouth (K)
OF N.Morgan
UT Longoria
UT Votto (K)
UT Napoli
B Griffey, B.Butler, D.Fowler

SP Sabathia (K), Halladay (K), Billingsley, Oswalt, Kershaw, Volstad, Blanton
RP Broxton, Street

Deal A: Big, big difference between blanton and Johan, but Jones is always injured and not the same and you will be giving up a lot between him and longoria..

Deal B: I really like kershaw and next year he should just get better...and would not do this trade....

Im sure johan would go back in draft after 10 as well..

If I do a deal I would do A...Johan is a beast compared to blanton..

Help me out

Bump

any other takes? Is Jones oblique strain a dealbreaker or is A worth it to stack my rotation for playoff time?

Neither of those trades IMO. Longoria is the best keeper in the bunch. Chipper Jones is on major decline. Blanton is pitching very well. Longoria is better than Bay. Kershaw is not that much worse than Beckett

IF it were non-keeper I would think about it, but not when you can keep both Longoria and Kershaw for two more years.

to me, trade B is the better of the 2, but I would hold out for more of an upgrade and not a lateral type move

I do neither. the mets are terrible and blanton has been lights out of late. plus bay is hurt and has slumped for months now.

I wouldn't jump on either of these. I think Johan has lost a step - I don't know if he'd be a keeper for my team. But Longoria definitely would be, even with your A-Roid at 3B. You might be able to move A-Rod for someone big! Say a Braun, a Fielder, someone with some long term serious upside.

Good luck!

I would pass on both trades, as Johan could lose his keeper value with a mediocre season and Jones is keeper worthy

Neither if you are looking primarily at keepers.

A if you are going for it this year, and you need pitching more than offense.
