Thinking of trading HanRam *WHIR*

Postby blove523 » Fri Aug 07, 2009 9:39 pm

I'm thinking of trying to trade Hanley, but I need to know what players to target. I haven't put out any feelers yet to any team, but I'd like to know what kind of package to expect. I've looked at one guys team who has Braun, Nolasco, and Cain. We keep two each year, and I was originally thinking of keeping Pujols/HanRam. If I do make a trade, I'd like another keeper in return, such as Braun. Would you keep Braun or Utley?

C - Jorge Posada
1B - Albert Pujols
2B - Chase Utley
SS - Hanley Ramirez
3B - Mark DeRosa
OF - Nick Markakis
OF - Matt Holliday
OF - Matt Kemp
UTIL - Adam Dunn
UTIL - Troy Tulowitzki
B - Brian Roberts

SP - Tim Lincecum
SP - Roy Oswalt
SP - Matt Garza
SP - Adam Wainwright
SP - Jonathan Sanchez
SP - Yovanni Gallardo
SP - Chris Carpenter
SP - Tommy Hanson
RP - Brad Lidge
RP - Jose Valverde
DL - Erik Bedard

Also, I'm thinking of trying to trade Markakis/Roberts for Crawford/Sandoval.

Need some more info here. If you're out of the running this year, then I wouldn't trade Hanley for the world. Hanley and Pujols are about as good as you can get for keepers, so if you're already looking to next year and you can only keep two, there simply ISN'T a trade that will make sense here.

On the other hand, if you're trying to win a championship this year and you think you can improve your team by moving Hanley while still having a decent keeper, then we have a different story. And even then, part of the answer to evaluating any trade will be weighing how hard you want to go after this year's championship versus how much you think not having Hanley as a keeper for next year will hurt you.

Braun and Utley are certainly excellent keeper options, too, so if you are still in contention for this year I think you can find a way to make it work. I'd prefer Utley as a keeper if it's just for next year, though if you have some sort of structure with long-term contracts then Braun's youth bumps him higher.

Utlimately, and this also depends on the other guy's roster and what he'd be after, I think you may as well make an offer for all the guys on his team that you want since you're giving up the best player in the deal here. Go after Braun, Nolasco AND Cain and see what you can make stick, balancing it out with your end of rotation guys.

Hope that helps! Best of luck!

Thanks for your input. I'm actually in 2nd place and about to take over 1st this week. I am beating the guy in 1st 18-2. I'm wondering if trading Hanley could fill all the presumable holes that I see or should I just "stick it out" with Hanley. Is he just having a down year in terms of Hanley's short career standards in term of power or is this who he is?

We have no contracts for keepers. We can keep a player for their entire career if we choose.

I think you keep what you have. You have got quite a squad this year, and Pujols and HanRam are
your definite keepers. You're taking over 1st place for a reason. Sit back and enjoy the ride...

If you're about to take first with Han Ram, why trade him. Have you ever heard the saying, "If it ain't broke, don"t fix it"?

If you can protect two, and you have Hanley and Pujols. You don't nee to make trades. Stay away.

I'm on the clock. Lend me your voice/opinion
