Rotoworld (and all kinds of other outlets) have been reporting that J.A. Happ's position as the #5 starter is in jeopardy when Pedro Martinez is ready to join the team.
Really? Would the Phillies be so stupid as to bump a guy who's been easily their best starter this year to the bullpen?
Can any Philly fans out there help me out? Why on earth would they not bump Moyer?
Maybe I'm backwards on this, but when you're making a push for the stretch run of the season, doesn't it make sense to have your best starters going?
Money and reputation talks. I'm guessing if this happens, Pedro will be mediocre at best (like a 1-3 record and an 4.80 era) and Happ will return with the first SP injury comes along.
Happ's innings are getting up there. I actually think they should shut him down, or at least move him into the bullpen to lighten his load. Judging by the way they treated Hamels last year though (and look what it's done to him this year!), I don't think that is their reasoning. But hey, I'm a Braves fan - feel free to ruin your young arms.

Seeing as how I heard them talking about the same thing on ESPN, and how Happ's name is the only one that's been mentioned anywhere as being moved to the bullpen when Pedro gets there, no, I hadn't really thought of that. But thanks for your deep insight, as always.
True or not, I think they'd probably like to see Pedro have a bit of success early on, and save Happ some innings for use later towards and in the playoffs. Happ tossed 165 innings last year, so I'd expect them to keep him around 200 max, including the playoffs.
So, as a knowledgeable baseball follower with some common sense, who would you think is most deserving of a demotion to the bullpen between these two pitchers:
Pitcher A: 115 IP 2.74 ERA 1.12 WHIP 86 Ks 37 BBs
Pitcher B: 118.1 IP 5.55 ERA 1.47 WHIP 68 Ks 37 BBs
