OF Justin Upton left the D-backs' 4-3 victory over Pittsburgh on Wednesday with a strained right oblique muscle suffered when he attempted to steal second base with one out in the last of the ninth inning. Upton took off for second but was in obvious pain after only a couple of steps. Upton, who stole second base in the seventh, is hitting .301 with 20 homers, 22 doubles and 16 RBIs. "We'll know more (Thursday), but it's a tough blow for this team," manager A.J. Hinch said.

(Rotoworld) Justin Upton put on a brave face Wednesday after leaving the game with a strained oblique muscle.
A similar injury cost him a month last year. "No," Upton said when asked if he was concerned. "I'm trying to be as optimistic as possible. I can't say how I'm going to feel tomorrow. We'll see how I feel today and go from there." Manager A.J. Hinch didn't commit to anything, but he seemed to indicate that a DL stint was fairly likely.

DL trip was inevitable. Let's hope he gets the rest he needs and can come back strong for the last week before the playoffs. Good thing I just aquired Kemp and Ethier in my keeper league. One spot out of the playoffs and both Cruz and Upton go down with three weeks to go.

Guys, the good thing is they put him on the DL asap, the only problem is he plays for Arizona and they arnt playing for anything and wouldnt want to rush him back, lets just hope its noting more than a month at most and back in time for the fantasy playoffs.

word is though that he will be ready by the time he is elgible to come off the DL, but who knows its just speculation...

The D-Backs are optimistic about Upton (oblique) possibly returning as soon as he's eligible to come off the DL in two weeks, the Arizona Republic reports.

Recommendation: "The best-case scenario is probably 10 to 14 days," manager A.J. Hinch said. "It doesn't make sense to go without a player for 10 to 14 days. We'll put him on the DL and hope for a speedy recovery so that he's back when the 15 days are up." Keep in mind, however, that the D-Backs don't have much to gain down the stretch by rushing Upton back into the picture if he's not ready.
