Big BIG trade help QUICK!! Roy and Braun invovled..WHIR>100%

Postby bazzy_51 » Wed Aug 05, 2009 2:40 pm

ok so im in a 12 team h2h standard 5x5 scoring KEEPER league...

im 13 GB of first place, in 2nd place, and having a great week while hes not doing as great so i may catch up a bit...

anyways the 1st place team is mighty interested in my Roy Halladay and has proposed this to me (again its a keeper league):

I give: Roy Halladay and Raul Ibanez
I get: Ryan Braun, Ryan Zimmerman and Jerred Weaver

OR

I give: Roy Halladay, Raul Ibanez, Tommy Hanson and 2nd round pick after keepers next year
I get: Ryan Braun, Ryan Zimmerman, Justin Verlander and 6th round pick after keepers next year

my Roster:
C-Kurt Suzuki
1b-Pujols
2b-Pedroia
3b-Miggy Cabrera
SS-Furcal
OF-Abreu, Zobrtis, Ibanez
Util-Stephen Drew
BN-BJ Upton, Aubrey Huff, Chris Iannetta, Jason Kubel, Chris Davis
DL-Delgado

SP (start 3) Lincecum, Halladay, CC
RP (start 3) Nathan, Aardsma, Nunez
P(start 3) Tommy Hanson, Ubaldo Jimenez, Roy Oswalt
BN-Brett Anderson, Max Scherzer, Scott Baker
DL-Tim Hudson, Matt Lindstrom

Should i make this deal? im not concerned with trading Halladay because IMO my pitching staff is stacked and i figued with this deal i could slide Braun into Ibanez's spot and Zimmerman at UTIL then platoon Stephen Drew and Furcal, plus i think Weaver is still a fairly decent arm to recieve in return 11W, 126K, 3.79ERA... on the other hand, to acquire Verlander all i would have to add is Tommy Hanson, who i picked up early in the year of FAs and would never be a keeper for me with my lineup the way it is now, and the picks aren't really as valued because talks are of 6-8 keepers...

but i want yall's opinion this is a HUGE deal cuz not only is it between myself in 2nd place but also with the guy in 1st place, and it would set my keepers for next year with Pujols, Miggy, Braun, Lincecum, CC + + + + (not sure on the keeper number yet)...

I think you take the deal with Verlander.

While Ibanez is a nice story, he is not nearly the keeper Braun is. Verlander is equal to Halladay IMO and much younger. You give up Hanson, who is an uber-prospect, but at best he turns out to be as good as Verlander, so get the sure thing. It helps you in the long terms and is pretty equal for this year.

the guy is still a bit hesitant on the 2nd trade (which i don't blame him Verlander imo is every bit equal to Halladay aside from ERA), hes going to get back at me later in the afternoon to tell me for sure if hes going to do that deal or not... if he doesn't is the 1st deal worth it also??

I would do deal #1 too simply because of the upgrade in keepers (I am heavily biased towards keeping hitters, you should know). Also, Halladay is pretty old, so not a great long-term keeper. Yous also don't lose much this year, and might even come out on the positive side for this year. Braun and Ibanez are pretty even this year, but Zimmerman is a nice piece that you could potentially turnaround for a better SP than Weaver.

Yes, I'd do the deal. Verlander has clearly returned to form, so you aren't losing out too much on pitching. And Ryan Braun is a known producer. Zimmerman has also been a good surprise this year, providing a solid option at 3rd.

Thanks for the help on mine.

Try for the 2nd deal first. I like Hanson, but Verlander is young also and he's more of a sure thing. Plus he's a K machine. Also I love Braun as a keeper for you. Swapping the draft picks (equivalent of swapping 7th and 12th rounders if you have 6 keepers) is worth it to get Verlander.

If he doesn't do it I still like the first deal. Weaver is a slight downgrade on Halladay but he's still solid. Braun should be way better than Ibanez the rest of the way, he's much younger, and I think Ibanez's numbers will go down the rest of the way. Plus Zimmerman at Util is a nice upgrade over starting stephen drew.

A no brainer long term and short.

Thanks for helping with mine! ;-D

Thanks for the reply on mine. I'd go with the 2nd deal. Weaver doesn't do it for me if your giving up Roy. Although if the 2nd deal can't be worked out, I guess the first one is not that bad considering you get Braun. Ibanez and Braun could be about equal for the rest of this year, but going forward Braun is a far better option. Try to get that 2nd deal done. Good luck.

Deal number 2!

To break it down a little differently, you are giving up Tommy Hanson and a 6th round pick to get Verlander and a 2nd round pick! That is a steal and a half.
