Why isn't Shoppach playing?

I thought the V-Mart trade would open up all sorts of playing time for Kelly Shoppach (at least until the day that Santana gets the call), but he's only started one game since the deal went down. Anyone know why he's riding the pine so much?

Always been a career backup.

I'd say last year was more of a fluke.

There's a reason why the Red Sox didn't see him as a suitable replacement for Varitek.

As far as a legit reason, I have no idea.
