Trade prospoal help?

Postby Baldrick » Wed Aug 05, 2009 1:09 pm

Looking for some advice.

Halladay went up on the block and I'd like to snag him (I'm a Jays fan afterall).

Its a 12 team, 5x5 H2H league. Number of keepers has not been decided by the league yet (makes me over think things).

My team has been sitting in 1st place for the majority of the season and currently has a 14 game lead.

My roster:

Joe Mauer
Ryan Howard
Jose Lopez
Ryan Zimmerman
Miguel Tejada
Shane Victorino
Jason Bay
Adam Lind
Carl Crawford
BN Robinson Cano
BN Mark Reynolds
BN Ryan Braun
BN Ryan Garko
BN Hideki Matsui

Rich Harden
Ricky Romero
Jered Weaver
Chad Qualls
Fernando Rodney
Fernando Nieve
Chris Volstad
Frank Francisco
Justin Verlander
BN Francisco Liriano
BN Matt Garza
BN Joel Pineiro
DL Pedro Martinez

My team is leading all batting categories and I'm fairing well in SV, K and WHIP, but ERA and W I'm at .500 or below.

Players that the other guy is interested in are:

Mauer, Howard, Zimmermann, Victorino (mildly), Lind, Crawford, Cano, Reynolds, Braun, Harden (mildly), Verlander, Garza.

I'm figuring I'll have to obviously do a 2-1 deal (possibly 3-1). I'm just not sure who I should consider trading off in the deal. I figure if I can get Halladay for a SP and one of my 2B or 3B that would be pretty good for me.

He is looking for a big bat and SP.

Any thoughts are really appreciated it. I honestly think Halladay could make a huge difference for my team going into the last few weeks before the fantasy playoffs begin.

It sucks that you don't know how many keepers you'll have. That's one of those things that really should be known before deadline trades go down. Any guess? Or is there a range that's being discussed (as in, some people want 3 keepers, others want 6, so it'll probably be 3, 4, 5, or 6 -- something like that)?

I'd try to deal either Zimmerman or Reynolds as the main bat -- both hitting very well, but neither is at the top of your keeper list (for me, Braun, Howard, and Crawford are the top 3), and you have a surplus there. For a starter, I'd offer Weaver first. Solid pitcher, having a good year -- I'd say Pineiro, but I don't think anyone believes what we've seen from him. But I'd be glad to deal both Weaver and Pineiro with a 3b for Halladay.

Trade he has now offered.

He now wants to give me:

Halladay
Ibanez
Ubaldo Jimenez/Brett Anderson/Scott Baker/Max Scherzer/Tommy Hanson
1st round pick

for:

Ryan Braun
Ryan Zimmermann
Justin Verlander
4th round pick

Last I heard the keeper number was going to be low, but knowing would certainly help. Apparently he says it is looking like 6-8 keepers (most likely 6).

I tried to use Jered Weaver in place of Verlander, but he prefers Verlander.

Would love any thoughts on this offer.

looking at this logically i don't see how its a half bad trade...

Halladay=Verlander with a slight edge to Halladay simply because of the name and face value
Braun=Ibanez stat wise for this year Ibanez has slightly better stats in certain areas, Braun definitely a great keeper tho
Hanson and Zimmy again a wash, Hanson is a potentially top keeper arm, and Zimmerman has been up and down throughout his career, so there is no telling when this gravy train could derail...

i think its just about even 2 big names in Halladay and Braun swap sides, you could like you could use arms more then bats seens how Bay is riding the pine and you have plenty of backup bats to help out the load...

not to mention you upgrade on your picks and have 2 picks in the first round next year, i think its win/win for both, but you have the upper hand with quality and picks...

Great thanks to soto for the sweet sig!...
