It's trading season in my league, whose deadline is quickly approaching. I'm in first place, and have held it pretty steadily over the last few weeks. I'm throwing out feelers to a few teams. I got a wild trade offer this morning:
He gives me:
Josh Hamilton Todd Helton Josh Willingham Joel Piniero Zach Duke
I give him:
Jason Bay Jacoby Ellsbury Francisco Cordero Jon Lester
My intial reaction was to laugh at the guy, but I started to inspect the trade a little bit closer. This is a keeper league, and 2 of my keeper slots are up in the air after the season. Hamilton looks like a guy who will bounce back. However, of course, I'm still not leaning too heavily towards a trade like this, but I decided to give it a second look and present it to the Cafe to find out what others think.
Here's the pertinent information:
12-team, H2H, 6x6 league (R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG., OPS. for hitters, and W, SV, K, Holds, ERA, WHIP for pitchers).
Keeper league, we keep 4:
C - Brandon Inge 1B - Ryan Howard 2B - Chase Utley 3B - Hank Blalock SS - Troy Tulowitzki OF - Jason Bay OF - Jacoby Ellsbury OF - Ryan Ludwick Util - Jason Bartlett B - Garrett Jones B - Marco Scutaro B - Michael Bourn
SP - Hamels, E. Jackson, Gallardo, Lester, Blanton, J. De la Rosa RP - F. Cordero, Capps, Wood, Frasor
How 'bout it Cafe? Leave a link when helping, so I may assist in return.
I would pass. You need Bay and gang to hang onto first place. You have plenty of options for your 4 keeper spots, so worry about winning the league first then you can decide on your keepers.
Reject, reject, reject, reject. I still like Hamilton, but he's not nearly worth all that you're giving up. Like raiders said, you have plenty of good keeper options already.
You would basically be trading Bay, Ellsbury, Cordero, and lester just so you can keep hamilton. Its not like you're in last place and you want to build for next year, you're in first place.
You already have Howard, Utley, Bay, Ellsbury, Hamels, Lester, etc to choose 4 keepers from.
Go with your first instinct. Laugh at him, then turn it down!
Thanks for helping with mine!
