KEEPERS for next YR (WHIR)

Postby yoshi99 » Wed Aug 05, 2009 1:53 am

waddup guys, my team is floundering in 8th out of 12 in a yahoo roto keeper league, and I have begun looking at possible keepers for next year. We are allowed to keep 6 players:
I already have the no brainers but I need help with the rest. I'm not sure if I will keep any pitchers, just only two I'd truly consider are Verlander and Wainwright
No brainers: Evan Longoria, BJ Upton, Ryan Howard, Joey Votto

The rest: Stephen Drew, Ichiro, GOrdon Beckham, Nelson Cruz, Ian Stewart, Shin Soo Choo, Justin Verlander, Adam Wainwright.

I know I have depth at 1st base, but I have had no luck trading Ryan Howard to people, and I'm hesitant to trade Votto seeing as he has been a stud for me this year.

any help would be much appreciated

Ichiro and Verlander. Keeping Ichiro will give you a good mix of speed and power with your keepers.

If you keep a pitcher go Verlander and Beckham. If not then go Beckham and Ichiro.

Ichiro and Verlander bc stolen bases will be hard to come by in the redraft and top starting pitchers will be tough to come by too.

I think the others can be replaced by equal value players in the redraft.

Can you help with mine?

I think you have to keep Verlander, he is the Lincecum of the AL and is still young enough to further develop.

Beckham will not be eligible at either MI spot next year, so while I like him, unless you were to move Votto or Howard, I don't see him as a great option.

I am leaning towards ichiro, although he is getting to be on the older side, but will probably help you the most next year. I don't know if you would be willing to trade Upton, but I don't think he is going to ever be a big power guy. I envision he will be similar to crawford, which is valuable, but if you can somehow get Ryan Braun, or even his brother Justin, using B.J. as the centerpiece, I think you should go for it.

Ichiro and Verlander...

like just said, got beat to the punch haha, Beckham loses some of his value with the depleted positions of eligibility next year, and Ichiro is as solid as they come with Runs, SB and Average, and even this year has shown some extra pop in his bat, not to mention he compliments your other Keepers better then Beckham would...

help me out...

Hey guys thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it. Well, since y'all were kind enough to reply, I have made some big changes through trades on my team.

I have traded Ichiro, Nelson Cruz and Andrew Bailey for Jacoby Ellsbury and Matt Garza
I then proceeded to painfully trade Evan Longoria for a great return of Miguel Cabrera and Nick Markakis.

Before these trades I was absolutely planning on following your advice by keeping ichiro and Verlander, however, I now have the pleasant problem of figuring out keepers again, my bad but I could use all your help again.

Presently my keeper possibilities are: Ryan Howard, Miguel Cabrera, Joey Votto, Nick Markakis, BJ Upton and Jacoby Ellsbury. Outside possibilities are still Beckham (since I don't have a 3rd baseman for next yr), Justin Verlander (who would be painful to throw back to the sharks in the draft next year). Sorry to ask the same question again but your help would be much appreciated again.
Also, I have been trying to trade the excess for one solid keeper:
I have proposed an owner BJ Upton and Joey Votto for Alex Rodriguez
Another was proposed Joey Votto for Carlos Quentin
Another was proposed BJ Upton and Joey Votto or Ryan Howard and Adam Wainwright for Grady Sizemore (I'm in the bottom half of the table so I can afford to wait for a healthy Grady next year)
Another was proposed BJ Upton and Ryan Howard for Ryan Braun
lastly, I offered an owner BJ Upton and Ryan Howard for Jose Reyes

I'd accept the Upton/Howard for Braun offer, and keep the following 6:

Braun
Miggy
Verlander
Votto
Markakis
Ellsbury

Beckham is very tempting too, might want to keep him over Votto, but it's close. You'll be able to find a decent 3B in the draft if you don't keep him (might even be able to redraft him).

Here's mine, thanks for your help: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=395843
