Trade Billingsley for a 2B? WHIR

Postby GabbyJay » Tue Aug 04, 2009 7:23 pm

20 team, dynasty, H2H standard stats:

C-B. Molina
1B-Fielder
2B-Prado
3B-Wright
SS-Drew
OF-BJ Upton, Carlos Lee, Ellsbury
U-Morneau, Ortiz
B- Thome

SP-C Zambrano, Santana, F Hernandez, Lincecum, Billingsley, Floyd, Cueto, Happ
RP-Sherrill, F. Cordero, Soria
Minors- E Young Jr.

Obviously the major hole on this team is at 2B. A rebuilding team has offered Jered Weaver/DeRosa for Billingsley/Young. To make this work I would need to find someone who would give me a draft pick or two for Thome, as I'd want Prado's flexibility on the bench, plus he could fill in for DeRosa at 2B if DeRosa needed to fill in for an OF, etc. Lots of options which is important. We can't add FA's once the playoffs start.
My concern is that despite similar numbers, Weaver is worse than his numbers indicate and Bills is better. Going forward I feel like I might regret this, especially since I seem to be the only person on planet earth to see serious potential fantasy value in E Young.
Also, Billingsley is one of the guys I drafted 3 years ago in the inaugural draft of this league. I'm wondering if maybe that allegiance is causing me to overvalue him?

Leave a link and I will help.

I'm probably about as torn as you are on the trade. Your pitching depth (Santana, who I'm assuming is Johan, Zambrano, Billingsley and Lincecum) would make the deal tempting since it upgrades your 2B in a big way. However....part of me thinks that the deal isn't exactly going to benefit you much. Obviously he's rebuilding, so he wants the youth, but you might be able to get better value for those two. You might be able to get a better 2B...though in a 20 team league, it's hard to say. I probably would say no to the deal based off of Weaver alone, but maybe try and see if you can get a better 2B if you're going to sell C-Bill.

You have a stronghold on pitching and I'd keep it. Bills is worth more than what you are getting.

I like you pitching staff. I'd stick with what you got, or try to get more for Billingsley. This deal would not be enough for me.

I wouldn't do it. As much as you're losing by downgrading from Billingsley to Weaver you should gain back by upgrading 2B. I like DeRosa, but I don't think he's quite worth the sacrifice. Aim for Cano/Roberts/Phillips, and see what you can pull off.
