Trade Longoria in a keeper?

Postby guyincognito » Tue Aug 04, 2009 1:38 pm

We only keep 2 players, so given that, would you even consider trading away Longoria to help win a title this year?
I am 9-8, 1 game back of 3rd place in my division (1st - 12-5, 2nd - 11-6, 3rd - 10-7). Only the top 3 teams from each division (2 divisions) make the playoffs, it is not the top 6 teams overall. I'm playing the 2nd place team this week, and then I get to play the 1st place team and the 3rd place team one more time this year. Another team who has fallen out of contention is looking to unload for Longoria. His question to me is, "what will it take to get Longoira?" So, my question to you is, if you think it's smart to move Longoria, what do you think it should take to move him?

Rosters and league info below:

14 team, H2H, Keeper League (keep 2)
B Cats: Avg, E, H, HR, PP, R, RBI, SB
P Cats: W, L, K, QS, ERA, WHIP, HD, S

My roster:
C - V.Martinez
1B - M.Teixeira
2B - A.Hill
SS - D.Jeter
3B - E.Longoria
OF - Ichiro, H.Pence, J.Ellsbury
DH - D.Ortiz
U - J.Votto
Bench - G.Beckham, Hunter (DL)
SP - A.J.Burnett, C.Lee, J.Cueto, D.Bard
RP - M.Rivera, B.Lidge, R.Franklin, R.Soriano, O'Day
Bench - J.Danks, E.Santana, JA Happ, Snell, Zito, Hudson(DL)

His Roster:
C - Wieters
1B - D.Lee
2B - Utley
3B - Chipper
SS - Rollins
OF - Bay, Soriano, Zobrist
DH - Helton
U - Lind
Bench - Hart, Bartlett, Choo
SP - Cain, J.Johnson, Verlander, B.Anderson
RP - Affeldt, Balfour, F.Cordero, Guerrier, JP Howell
Bench - Berdard, Bergesen, D.Davis, Pedro (DL), Percival (DL)

As always, thanks in advance for your help!

Who is your other keeper, besides Teixeira?

If you do decide to move Longoria, I would target Utley, Verlander and J Johnson, in that order. Maybe you could get Utley and one of the pitchers if you package A Hill with Longo?

Thanks for mine.

I'd be hard pressed to get rid of Longo. Maybe...just maybe I'd take Utley and a top SP for him. You said he's out of it, so doesn't care about this year. IF and only IF you decide to trade Longo, might as well get as much as physically possible for him, right?

I wouldn't package any real talent with Longo...you're in the drivers seat on this one

thanks for helping with mine

I'm not sure I would move Longoria in the first place. You've got a pretty solid team already. I guess the argument could be made that you really don't have that top tier ace in your pitching staff, so if anything, I may look there first.

Thanks for the help on mine. ;-D

I'd set the bar high, and if you only keep two why wouldn't he go for it. Find out who his other keeper is and ask for the moon in deals not involving that guy (probably one of his SP? Cain?). I'd say Longoria/Hill/Cueto (who is in absolute free fall and trading him is addition by subtraction at this point) for Utley/Johnson/Verlander (or Cain if he's planning to keep someone else)

I offered Longoria, Hill, Cueto and E.Santana for Utley, Cain, Johnson and Verlander. I'm sure he'll counter, but at least it's a starting point. As you've all said, I have no reason to move Longoria, so we'll see what he's willing to part with. Thanks to all who have responded.

i would not trade longoria. he's one of the best keepers out there. the other guy recognizes that, and is obviously playing for next year. i'd keep him.
