My pitching has been horrible the last couple of weeks and I'm currently sitting in 6th place with the top 6 making the playoffs. What type of SP could I reasonably target with Ryan Howard. I hate to give up his power, but with Morales emerging as a solid option at 1st, I think I can get away with trading him. Who should I go after or should I stand pat with what I have? A couple of guys I'm thinking about are:
Cole Hamels, Felix Hernandez
Any other options? Not many people trade in this league so I'd need to come with a strong offer off the bat.
I would not trade Ryan Howard. He is a notorious second half stud!
How do you feel about Joba? He will be moving to the pen soon after he eclipses 160 innings pitched...only has 50 more innings. He also pitched very well last game and is a young gun.
If I were you try looking for a pitching strong team. Maybe someone who is out of the playoff contention and is looking to rebuild. Come at him with a Morales, Joba, maybe Hunter for a stud starter. Looking at your OF you are very young and all those guys are studs. If you dont want to trade Hunter try Morales, Joba, and Rios. Still try looking for a stud such as King Felix.
I still dont like Hamels. He got rocked last night and has been struggling all year.
Thanks for the help. Any other thoughts on this? Is Felix Hernandez the right guy to target with a package of Morales/Rios/Joba? I like the idea, just looking for some more input.
Morales/Rios/Joba is enough value-wise to land Felix, but I hate giving up my stud players for 3 "decent" players, so I don't know how he'll react to that offer. I agree with the first person who replied, however - you should not trade Ryan Howard. If you do, target a high-end, reliable SP - like a Halladay or Johan. See if Linecum is available. Howard is a first-round bat and is producing exactly the type of numbers people had him on pace for. You don't trade someone like that for a struggling Hamels, who even if healthy would only be giving you 2nd-3rd round value, and definitely not Felix, who doesn't pitch for a contender.
