He's getting at least 3 starts with the Cubs to try and prove himself while Lilly is o-n the shelf. When Lily gets back, Gorz might have some difficulty sticking, with Zambrano, Harden, Dempster, Lilly, and Wells all ahead of him. However, he has been on fire of late in the minors: 1.55 ERA, 58 IP, 61 K, 19 BB, 1.07 WHIP in last 10 minor league starts. In his 2007 (rookie) season: 201.2 IP, 135 K, 14-10, 3.89 ERA, 1.40 WHIP. Theres some sleeper material here...

FYI, he looked very good and very poised tonight. This guy was on of the top lefties prospects in baseball at one time. A great throw in for the Grabow trade.

If he looks like sticking, the Cubs could move Dempster back to the Pen. The Marmol/Gregg combo is a stomach-churning disaster fest half the time. It would be good to shore that up some.

Do you not remember the stomach-churning disaster fest that was Ryan Dempster as a closer?

If he can find his grove again, I'd much rather have him around as a starter, though you bring up a good point about not having much in the pen.
