The 2009 Padres/2010 Mariners (updated)

Postby AussieDodger » Sun Aug 02, 2009 4:40 am

EDIT: See below for new post(s)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2009:

The Padres currently have 395 runs through 105 games, on pace for 609.
They have an OBP of .312 and are SLG .378.

The worst hitting teams since 1996 (1995 was only 144 games long)....

#1. '03 Dodgers. 574 runs, .303 OBP/.368 SLG
#2. '02 Tigers. 575 runs, .300 OBP/.379 SLG
#3. '03 Tigers. 591 runs, .300 OBP/.375 SLG
#4. '09 Padres. (projected) 609 runs, .312 OBP/.378 SLG
#5. '04 Diamondbacks. 615 runs, .310 OBP/.393 SLG

Over 14 seasons and 416 teams, SD is currently the 4th suckiest.

Do they have the mojo to go for #1? Stay tuned. :-B

So, just HOW bad are the Padres if you take out Adrian Gonzalez's contribution to those stats?

They're going to be a horrific team for the next couple of years.

Agreed. Didn't they win 10 or 11 in a row early this year? I feel sorry for Adrian Gonzalez (and even sorrier for me who drafted him in the 3rd) because teams can simply pitch around him most of the time. It's amazing he has been as productive as he has in that lineup, as well as having to play half his games at Petco. He could be a 45+ (maybe 50) HR guy elsewhere.

Anyone else notice that 3 of those 5 teams are NL West Teams? And I'm sure if you took the top say....20 you'd have at least 8 of them from the NL west with the Pirates/Nationals/Tigers/Royals getting another 8.

Update:

The Padres actually got beaten for least runs by the Pirates 638-636. (zomgz :-o )
SD ended up scoring 29 more then they were on pace for in my original post.

The new "Suckiest Offense Since 1996" list:

1. 2003 LAD 574
2. 2002 DET 575
3.2003 DET 591
4.2004 ARI 615
5.1998 TB 620
6.2002 MIL 627
7.2004 MIL 634
8.2004 MON 635
9.2009 PIT 636
10.2008 SD 637
11.2009 SD 638
12.2005 WAS 639
13.2008 SF 640
14.2009 SEA 640
15.2001 NYM 641
16.2002 PIT 641
17.2008 WAS 641
18.2003 NYM 642
19.2009 HOU 643
20.1998 MON 644

IMO Houston taking 19th place with some of the hitters they have is extreme FAIL. 8-o

pads had a pretty good run towards the end of the season. i guess it's easier to play with zero pressure.

Just thought I'd bump this to accommodate the new "champions" of not scoring runs...........

Worst offensive years 1996-2009:

1. 2003 LAD 574
2. 2002 DET 575
3.2003 DET 591
4.2004 ARI 615
5.1998 TB 620
6.2002 MIL 627
7.2004 MIL 634
8.2004 MON 635
9.2009 PIT 636
10.2008 SD 637
11.2009 SD 638
12.2005 WAS 639
13.2008 SF 640
14.2009 SEA 640
15.2001 NYM 641
16.2002 PIT 641
17.2008 WAS 641
18.2003 NYM 642
19.2009 HOU 643
20.1998 MON 644

This year's contenders to join the "top 20" with 3 games to go.......

SEA 507
PIT 580
BAL 597
HOU 604
CLE 632

Wow. Seattle setting a new low. That'll be the least runs in a 161/162 game season since the 1971 Padres scored 486. :-° :-o
JackZ isn't as pretty as he was pre-season 8-o 8-o 8-o ;-7
