Keeper SP Question

Postby Johnny Tuttle » Fri Jul 31, 2009 8:19 pm

I have a chance to make a nice upgrade to my pitching for 2009 in a near dynasty. I can give Porcello/Volquez for CC Sabbathia.

The upside is that I have at least one too many keeper candidates for SP, and so long as I'm getting the best one in this deal, I'm consolidating talent, letting me keep a guy I really like in Ubaldo. Also, I'm more or less trying to win now (I'm a playoff team, knock on wood), so having CC over Vol/Por is certainly worth my while for this year, likely.

The downside for me is that I think the guys I'm giving up really have high ceilings, and CC's slipping already. I don't want to buy the new Zambrano. CC's K rate is down.

My 6 keeper SP before the trade: Johan, Peavy, Gallardo, Wainwright, Volquez, and Porcello

My 6 keeper SP after the trade: Johan, Peavy, Gallardo, Wainwright, CC, and Ubaldo.

Pull the trigger?

Thank you.

hell yeah i like that deal for you, you get the best pitcher, yes you give up youth but add a stud arm to your already sweet rotation... and personally i would have kept Ubaldo over Volquez anyways... to me that trade was Porcello for CC and either way you won big now and later...

help me out...(bottom of 2nd page)

I'd definitely do that. CC has been up and down this year, but he's more proven than both of those guys. Porcello has a lot of upside as you said, but if you're trying to win now CC is better.

Make that deal with confidence. I believe it will be the best for you now and even in the long run.

When you can win, go for it. Make the deal. I think Porcello will be a stud pitcher - in 2012 (remember, he's 20. As a comparison, Lincecum is 25, Greinke is 25; Porcello will be great 3 years from now) ; CC will be from now until around then.

Is your league one where you wait three years as someone goes through good to become a stud?

Help with mine. Especially looking at keeping Matt Wieters but think his price is too high. viewtopic.php?t=394657

Absolutely do this deal. If you're playoff bound, he will (likely) help push you toward a championship. The guys you give up won't this year.

Hey JT. I like the deal for you. C.C. has plenty left in the tank (and it's a big tank...lol - couldn't resist my CC fat joke). Porcello is looking like a bust and career #4 pitcher at best, and Volquez has fallen apart and could be the next Mark Prior for all we know.

I figured someone from the league would turn up sooner or later :)

I have been worrying both that I won't be good enough to win even with CC (the team to beat in this league is quite good) and that I'm giving two #1s for one #1, but I like taking bold actions in a league in which inactivity rules. If I'm going down, it's swinging.

The other owner and I have been playing pass the Porcello for more than a year now. He drafted him, traded him to me with stuff for Rivera, I traded him with stuff for Peavy, I got back back for Gamel, I traded him with stuff for Hanley, I got back with stuff for Villanueva, Nunez, and Morgan. Phew. In other words, we both know that to facilitate a trade between us, we'll pass Porcello knowing that it's not like we'll never see him again ;)

The other owners in the league like D-Store must think we're nuts. Esp. if they don't even like Porcello.
