Zito is God wrote:I've seen Masterson pitch a good deal and his 89 mph fastball looks like a 99 mph fastball because of his delivery. He is 23/24 right now, and I always saw him as a good #2 or #3 starter in the majors. Don't know much about the other guy, but I think the Red SOx got VMart really cheap if those are the only 2 players and the other pitcher isn't anything special. I expected more of a Bowden + Kalish + C-level prospect type of deal.
What is the final deal? Anybody know?

His career OPS is .832, and his 2009 OPS is .832. He's hitting as expected, but that really isn't a significant upgrade on anything Boston has.
Yes it is. Have you seen the offense lately? He will be a welcomed addition. I hate to lose Masterson though. Loved his versatility.
I don't need to have seen the offense lately to know the Red Sox would have been fine without Victor Martinez. They have plenty of good hitters.
I mean...it's a slight upgrade, but it's not entirely necessary.

Scouting Report: Big lefty whose fastball sits around 92-94 mph and tops out at 98 mph with very good life. Aggressive, throws strikes and gets ahead in the count. Also mixes in a biting 82-83 mph plus slider, and an improving 80-81 mph changeup. Very good control. Team leader and a hard worker. A closer in college, Hagadone could make it as a starter if his changeup keeps improving. Not a lot of miles on his arm. Needs to work on keeping his delivery consistent. At this stage, despite having fluid arm action, his delivery is a bit compact. The team is still undecided as to whether Hagadone will be a starter or a reliever long-term. Hagadone had TJ Surgery in early June 2008, and returned to the mound in Greenville almost exactly one year later

Scutaro and a bullpen arm would make this deadline very successful for the Sox.

I've heard it numerous times now on other message boards but I'm looking for a concrete source. It could be nothing. Not sure yet.

Jays won't trade Scutaro if Halladay isn't on the move.
