Thoughts on a deal, WHIR!!!

Postby Chatrain57 » Mon Jul 27, 2009 2:21 pm

Ok, I'm thinking of offering Billingsley for Dunn. I could use the power in my OF and have Helton as my everyday starter at 1st to help offset the drain on BA that Dunn can be. I'm thinking that I can afford to part with Billingsley, considering my other starters are Haren, Hamels, Wandy, Randy Wells, and Maholm, plus Meche, Bedard and Volquez, on the DL, with Meche and Volquez looking to return soon. BUT, am I going to be making a mistake by trading Bills? Is Dunn proper return for Bills? Thanks in advance for the answers, and if you leave a link, I'll gladly return the favor!!

Oh, in case anyone wonders, I punted holds for Saves in my league, thus the reason for the 5 closers

Wouldn't do this. Would try and get a better player for Billingsley if you want to trade him that badly, but I don't see why you would. Despite having Helton in the lineup, you get a week where Duno goes 1/20 and that can really kill your team average.

Thanks for the help.

I agree. Wait for a better player to come along. Bills is awesome and will get out of the little slump he is in now. If you want to sell for low value you can, but I would wait if you want to trade.

At this point you wont get that much more out of DUnn... I dont think he hits his usual 40 this year.. that park is just too big for him... Keep Bills... but I agree you can afford to deal him, just wait for a better hitter.

Please help with mine?... I need it!

I think it's a perfectly fair deal on both sides... However I'm not sure the deal helps you all that much. Your guys are already pretty good. I'm not sure if upgrading any of them to Dunn is worth losing Billingsley.

Now whether or not you can get more for Bills is of course a matter of opinion. I happen to really like him, but many others in my league feel he's overrated (I owned him last year). He hasn't really gotten over that hump yet (though I'm sure his recent ERA slump is just a fluke). Plus Dunn's BA isn't too bad this year (not that he'll definitely keep it up, but you never know). And he should be able to get close to 40 HR and 100+ rbi.

My biggest concern for you would be expecting continued good production from randy wells, and any production from Maholm. Plus I'm not one to count on anyone currently on the DL. One day they'll be 'back in a week', the next day they're 'out for the year'

If you really want some more offense, I'd put out some feelers for Billingsley and see if anyone else is interested. And maybe see what you can get for Randy Wells (sell high)

Thanks for the help with mine.

I'd try to get someone better than Dunn for Billingsley.
