Verlander for Cruz/Rivera

Postby Padres Fan » Sat Jul 25, 2009 1:43 pm

I am in a ESPN Roto 11 team keeper league, I just took it over Thursday and already gained 8 points and currently 3rd about 7 points behind 1st. I feel I need more outfield power and someone offered Nelson Cruz and Juan Rivera for my Justin Verlander, should I take it?

i really like nelson cruz, and he would really help your line-up. i like rivera too, but his hammy worries me. for verlander, you could probably swing more b/c of rivera's injury. even so, both dudes can hit. i think i'd try to counter for cruz and another of his healthy OFs just to see what he says.

ty for helping me.

Thanks for the reply....

I wouldn't do this trade for the following reasons:

Cruz still has finger injury problems (not a big issue because he's still hitting dingers) but the main thing is his job security (you saw how fast they pulled him when Jones went on a HR Binge right?) Plus how will he fair at the end of the season? I still like Cruz though and would take him in a package deal but....

Next thing is Rivera! His Hammy issue is not getting any better and who knows when and if he will return and what kind of form he will be in?

I would like to see the other guys roster to better analyze a better trade for you so if you could post that then it would be more helpful but this offer I would not do.

Thanks!

Was looking at his team for a possible counter and in the OF he has Bay/Cruz/Podsednik/Rivera/Bourn Guttierez/Taveras he also has Votto and Huff on the bench and his pitching is pretty weak but he does have alot of closer in Rivera/Fuentes/Bell.

Should I try to take Cruz/Bourn for Verlander or see if he will go Cruz/Votto for Verlander, then I would drop either Span or Willingham.

also I just dropped Jake Fox for Garrett Anderson since he is hitting pretty well and gets everyday at bats

I would definately agree here.....If you could get Votto/Cruz then jump all over it but i doubt he does that. Depending on his roster and need though you could possibly throw a lesser bench guy in with Verlander to land it though!

I also would not be opposed to doing Bay for Verlander which would really strangthen your OF's.

You could also do Verlander for Cruz/Gutierrez which is decent but always try for the good stuff before going down.

Also, is Garrett Jones (OF-Pitt) available in your league? This guy is the deal right here so if he is then grab him at all costs!

Good Luck! Let me know if you have anymore questions or what you decide to do. If you want you could PM me and I'll help you out!

Well I countered Verlander/Lowell for Cruz/Votto, since either Lowell or Willingham was going to be my drop anyway

I like that deal for you. I also thought the suggestion of Verlander for Bay was valuable as well. Even if you have to add a little in to make it work.

Help with mine:

well he declined Votto/Cruz for Verlander/Lowell as he says that Votto is untouchable, I like bay in real life but his .252 Average and and he only sporting a .881 OPS (counts in my league). I just sent him a email asking if Jason Bay is touchable and may try to work a Verlander/Guerrero/Lowell for Cruz/Bay
