12 team H2H, non-keeper, standard 5x5 (with OPS and K/9 added)
* The minimum innings pitched is only 7 per week, so I've been thinking of going with the Closers only strategy and take 4 out of the 6 pitching cats (Saves, ERA, WHIP, K/9) I feel like I need 1 more closer to pull this off on a weekly basis, so the potential trade is:
I give Stephen Drew, Ricky Nolasco, Lindstrom(DL) I get back Yunel Escobar, JP Howell
My Roster: C-Mauer 1B-Teix 2B-Kendrick 3B-M.Cabrera -(traded Holliday and Greinke beginning of season) SS-S.Drew CI-Votto MI-Alexei OF-Morgan OF-Ethier OF-Rios OF-Kubel UT-Kendrick BN-F.Lopez
SP-Lincecum -(traded Manny for him beginning of season) SP-Nolasco RP-Broxton -(traded Zimmerman for him during hitting streak) RP-Soria RP-Nathan P-Carpenter BN-Bedard BN-Buchholtz DL-Slowey
If I impliment this strategy correctly I really don't even use Starting Pitching (only to help if one of my closers gets hit a little bit)
With your current roster, I don't think you need to. Sure, it is an ok strategy say around draft time, where you can load up your hitting and reach a round or so on each of the premiere closers, but with the guys you have (Lincecum, Carpenter, Nolasco, Bedard and now Buchholz) I see no reason to "punt" wins and k's, since most weeks I'd guess you should win 4 of 6 pitching categories with that group anyways, and some weeks you could conceivably win all 6. On the flip side, as you alluded to, what happens if one of your closers comes in and implodes in an appearance, say 1 IP 3 ER, your best hope is to win perhaps 2 categories. I wouldn't implement it at this point. Maybe something to consider next year (though idk on further thought, I hate to punt categories). I like the outside the box thinking, as often times it is necessary to get ahead, but in this case, I wouldn't do it.

I agree wholeheartedly. You have a good nucleus of starters. I like Escobar over Drew, but personally wouldn't give up Nolasco, who's turned the corner and is solid. I wouldn't do it.
I could see Nolasco pitching on par with his 2nd half last year from here on out, so I think I'd hang onto him all things equal. I like your team as it is right now, and if you're unhappy with Drew's production, I'd take a look at guys who may be available and are stroking it well like Izturis or F. Lopez, etc.

Why would I need to deal Soria?
The league has a limit of 5 moves per week, so teams can run a few starters through. My experience is even with Lincecum and Carpenter, it's not that crazy to lose K's and QS's in a given week. Some people load up on 2 start guys, etc.... So with a 7 inning minimum you can really lock down the 4 categories and not worry about the "streaming" ones. Linceucm and Carpenter are still useful since they can be used to hedge against a reliever blowup.
First of all, I'm generally opposed to a closer only strategy. you are punting K's and wins in order to hopefully win saves(a volatile category depending on the matchup every week) and K/9. plus, with those two aces, it's a mistake to just give away wins and K's so easily.
As for Soria, I shouldn't have said you must deal him. However, I don't think broxton, nathan, soria and howell is enough to ensure you saves every week, so you would need to deal for fuentes, rivera or papelbon to make the idea work. I was suggesting using soria as bait. If you can get one of those closers without giving up soria, by all means keep him. But having a closer on a team that generates few save chances doesn't work well in that strategy.

I hear ya I might need to deal for another stud closer on a good team, but I'm in the camp that doesn't believe you need a good team to get saves. Brian Wilson last year, Heath Bell this year. That's kinda why I was shooting for Howell and see if I could lock up a winning team closer. But ya one of those guys you mentioned would be better for the strategy. Guy said Rivera would cost me Alexei. Anyone do it? (Peralta somewhat heating up)
