It depends. If the Cards sign Holliday and are using these next 2 months as a "St Louis is an amazing baseballs city you'd be crazy to leave" strategy (aka the McGwire pitch) it would lessen the blow.
Now if the Cards don't make the play-offs and Holliday walks, then yes they gave up too much to get 2 first round picks next year.

Holliday allegedly has a house in Angels territory somewhere and wants to play there.
With Vlad coming off the books they will have the dough to sign him.
Should be very interesting to watch this "winter".
