I'm torn. While I've said that the Cardinals need to do everything possible to put quality players around Pujols and Carp while they are still in their primes this seems like a high price to pay, especially if Holliday leaves at the end of the season.

I'm pretty sure the A's just got a better package for two months of Holliday than the package they paid to get him for a year in the offseason.

Do you hear that? It's the sound of thousands of NL-only owners who burned their #1 waiver pick on Mark DeRosa.

I wonder what kind of chain reaction this sets off for the rest of the NL Central.

Pirates trade for Halladay, Brad Penny, and Dunn to make a run for it?
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike

Was there ever any doubt Beane would get more back?

I don't think he would have done it if he wasn't confident he could fleece somebody, the general thought process being that teams didn't have the money last off season to sign big bats, so he knew they would be more willing to trade for them at the deadline.

So are GM Mozeliak and that piece of scum La Russa.
But they are torn in a place that won't let them sit down for a while by this deal ;-7
