Zain1two3 wrote:hi there i was the first poster in this particular thread. I would love to reply to the ridiculous message left behind by Bazzy_51. He points out that people are drawn to Hanley cos he's a "big name"...i wish i had his name in my lineup because as of now (23/07/09) he has a .348 BA, 15HRs, 62 RBIs....the main thing to consider in a trade is who is the best player so yes, Bazzy_51, people are going to look and see that he is the best player. But the deal isn't good for Team A just because of Hanley. This is where my second point comes in. You mention Haren's second half performance in detail and how the Rasmus's and Sandovals will be getting in the years to come because this is a DYNASTY league. Well son, you are comparing unproven rookies to Dan Haren who is a top 5 pitcher right NOW and is the best pitcher in the entire trade. Colby Rasmus could be good too, i'm not knocking him but atm, no. So, so far, we have HanRam (best player in the trade) and Haren (best pitcher in the league). Even if his ERA goes up in second half by 1.5 runs as your technical analysis indicates (btw i'm being sarcastic) he would have a 3.48 era, better than any of the other rubbish from Wandy Rodriguez (who btw is a .500 pitcher after 6 seasons) ...whereas Volquez has a much higher upside (don't even bother to disagree with that).
Morneau is a monster but look at what you get back. Youkilis can basically match his figures save for a couple of HRs and RBIs. (look up Youkilis' projected stats before you start moaning).
One last thing Bazzy_51. Sorry for picking on you but i hate stoopid posts like yours. Second half performances are going to go down for every single baseball player save for a few. Why? Tiredness. These guys play alot of games and their first half perfs are gonna be much better. Look at Josh Hamilton last year. That doesn't make him a "1st half player". Anyway i've said my peace.
ok and its now time to say my peace... first off don't come at me calling me your 'son' far, FAR, from that... now onto the real business, lets start in the outfield, shall we? Look at the positions he plays, this isn't an OF, OF, OF league where you can play 3 CF, you have to worry about individual positions, so hes trading away his starting LF, RF and OF slots, don't believe hes getting any OF help in return and juding from his bench he HAS NO OUTFIELDERS left to plug in which brings me to my 2nd point about the OF situation he stated its a 20 teamer you think your going to find OFers that can produce even half as much as Lee, Rios and Rasmus on the WW? your CRAZY if you think that... now then we look at how hes using his players in his lineup, and currently the only 3B options he has on his squad is Sandoval and Headley (who i don't think is much of an option) so you trade away a high quality 3B that is also one of the most difficult to find a replacement at... onto my last point, his starting pitching, for a 20 team league it is sound, Lester/Jurrjens/Wandy/Kuroda/Guthrie really is not that bad, so why jepordize half your bats to pick up Hanley?
just to put it plain, he would lose his starting: 1B, 3B, LF, RF, OF, SP to gain 1B OR 3B, SS, SP, SP... logically thinking that makes NOOOO sense because the loss and not replacement of either a 1B or 3B (as youk can only play one or the other at one time) LF, RF, OF is a greater loss then the gain of a position he already has covered...
oh and Volquez having all of this upside and Wandy having none is ABSURD, you talk about well Wandy was a .500 pitcher before this year, ok what was Volquez before he made his big slash last year? 3-11 to be exact with an ERA somewhere around 6-7ish, also add on the fact that Wandy was the Stros best pitcher last year also, and his K% has gone up every year and his BB% has gone down each year and his FIP has gone down each and every year proves that hes still finding himself, his fastball has average 88-89mph every year since he came in, yet his K and BB numbers are getting better each year, that tells you that hes added and polished other pitches also, you can't base how good a pitcher is simply off his record as there is WAY too much to go wrong after they leave the game thats out of their control...
one last thing, i go back and forth with many people on this site, like i was told today by someone its better to have different opinions on things otherwise baseball, sports and life in general would be boring, but there was no need for you to come on here and bash me outright, quote me do whatever, but next time don't call my opinions and posts "ridiculous" and "stoopid (stupid btw if you were trying to insult me)" just say what you need to and move on...
