Are people dropping Weiters?

Postby quitesanemax » Wed Jul 22, 2009 10:15 am

Have people in non-keeper leagues given up on Wieters yet? About 3 weeks ago, I picked up Y. Molina giving myself two catchers, something I haven't done since my rookie fantasy baseball year... but I was just hoping against hope that Wieters would start to be what people proclaimed he would be. Now I'm seeing Montero out there on the waiver wire, and I'm thinking that a Molina/Montero combination has to be better.

Also players like the following are available on waivers:

Rolen, Pierre, Ayber...

Here is our league format:
H2H 12 team nonkeeper - 26 player roster w/ 2 DL.
Pitching: W,L,SV,K,Hld,ERA,WHIP
Batting: R,HR,RBI,SB,FPCT,AVG,OBP
Pitchers used: SP,SP,RP,RP,P,P,P,P
30 innings pitched minimum

Here is what my team looks like presently:

C: Y. Molina (CWS - C)
1B: B. Butler (KC - 1B)
2B:F. Lopez (Mil - 2B,3B,SS,LF)
3B: M. Cabrera (Det - 1B,3B)
SS: T. Tulowitski(Col-SS)
IF: A. Cabrera (Cle - 2B,SS)
LF: C. Quentin (CWS - LF)
CF: S. Victorino (Phi - CF)
RF: J. Kubel(Min - LF,RF)
OF: M. Holliday (Oak - LF)
Util: H. Matsui (NYY - LF)

Bench: M. Weiters (Bal - C),A. Kennedy(Oak - 2B,3B,RF), D. Murphy(Tex -LF,CF,RF)
DL: V. Guerrero (LAA - RF)
DL: C. Beltran (NYM - CF)

SP: A. Wainwright (StL), D. Lowe (Atl), J. Lester (Bos), J. Lackey (LAA), U.Jimenez(Col)

RP: J. Broxton (LAD), R. Soriano(Atl), D. Aardsma (Sea), JP Howell(TB), M. Guerrier(Min), R. Troncoso(LAD)
SP/RP: P. Hughes(NYY)

"C: Y. Molina (CWS - C)"

As a Sox fan, I wish that were true...

I'm dropping Wieters in some leagues. In one league without much bench space, I dropped him for Posada. In a roto league, I had a big roster pinch with a bunch of players day-to-day, and he was my backup catcher (Sandoval starting). The flexibility was worth more than a decent backup catcher.

I still think he'll be good. I have him in a couple leagues where Montero is available, and so far I'm holding onto Wieters. I trust his track record more than I trust Montero, but it wouldn't shock me if Montero ended up hitting better for the rest of the year, either.

Oops. At the beginning of the year, I had Pierzynski. I dropped him when Wieters came up... at the time he was doing horrible. That turned out to be a mistake. Anyway, I changed the catcher, but forgot to change the team.

Thanks for the advice!

What are you talking about? I didn't mean I picked up Montero, if that is what you mean. I meant I changed the catcher from Pierzynski to Molina on my team list, but I didn't change the team from CWS to StL.

No, I just meant that I said I'm keeping Wieters over Montero, and next thing you know, Montero blasts another one. It was a comment on what I wrote, not the AJ/Molina thing (which I understood -- I just didn't think it needed any sort of reply).
